HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Committees - Planning and Economic Development Committee - 09/26/1968 VALLEY REGIONAL PLANNING COMMISSION ANNUAL MEETING TUKWILA - SEPTEMBER 262 1968 The meeting was called to order at 7:45 P.M. The minutes were approved as sent out with the exception of the statement - Gordon Gould thanked the VRPC for the help that had been received with their Comprhensive Plan to the City of Pacific. This should have read: t' to the City of Algona' Mr. Hall announced the office has moved to the Titus Building 2.32 So. 2nd - Suite 201, Kent, Washington 98031. The suite consists of two separate rooms, carpeting, drapes and daily janitorial services. The office is leased for $80.00 per month for the term of one year. James 'Webster State Parks & Recreation Commission William B. Gillispie King County REFERENDUM 18 Mr. James Webster, Chief, Consultation-Education Division, State Parks and Recreation Commission, discussed Referendum 18. It is a $40 million Outdoor Recreational Areas and Facilities Acquisition and Development Bond Issue to be on the November 5, 1968 general election ballot. Slides were shown of recreational sites that have been improved by local, state and federal funds. The bond issue is to be retired with revenue from the State of Washington retail sales tax collection paid into the State General Funds. PLANNING SEMINAR Dr. Jones, Director of the Humanities Department of Green River Community College, discussed the possibility of a Planning Seminar. This could be held in a series of meetings to better acquaint interested persons of the problems facing the Valley. This would be sponsored by the VRPC. More study of this project will follow. -1- Page 2 - Sept. 26, 1968 ELECTIONS Nomination Committee recommendations were presented. Gordon Hall, President; Jan Klippert, Vice-President ; Iry Iverson, Secretary-Treasurer. It was moved, seconded and passed the secretary be instructed to cast the unanimous ballot for the nominees. President Weeks congratulated the new officers and thanked all of the officers and members for aiding him for the past year. President Gordon Hall stated he was to contact Mr. John Porter, County Administrator, regarding the budget request of VRPC. Also, hiring of an executive director will probably have to be delayed until the first of January. Mr. Gillispie, County Engineer of Flood Control, spoke on the Forward Thrust Storm Drainage and Flood Control Issues. The Executive meeting will be at 11 :30 A.M. , October 9th, - VRPC Office - 232 South 2nd - Suite 201, Kent, Washington. The General meeting will be held October 24th, at a meeting place to be disclosed later. The meeting adjourned at 5:45 P.M.
