HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Committees - Planning and Economic Development Committee - 07/09/1968 VALLEY REGIONAL PLANNING COMMISSION EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING JULY 9, 1968 The Executive Committee met in Renton at the Hungry Wolf Restaruant at 12:00 noon. Those present were President nenneth Weeks, Vice-President Jan Klippert, Secretary-Treasurer Gordon Hall, Robert Wing and Helen Irwin. Mr. Klippert requested the VRPC study Referendum No. 18 (Outdoor Recreation Funds.) Mrs. Irwin was asked to contact Mr. M. Brock Evans, Field Rep., Federated Western Outdoor Clubs, regarding more information and the possibility of obtaining a Speaker for one of our future General Meetings. Mr. Wing will be attending a meeting on the 18th of.the Forward Thrust Group and will give a report at the next General meeting. Mr. Wing requested the VRPC study the limitation on the Billboard Law. There will be a report on this subject also in the very near future. Mr. Hall asked VRPC to ake a stand on which route the State Highway Commission will take through the city of Kent. Since the State has made the statement, it will take the route Kent wishes, the VRPC felt they would not pursue this at this time. A Policy Statement regarding Associate Membership, was adopted and passed: A copy of this Policy Statement is attached to the Executive Committee Minutes. The next General Meeting will be held in the Auburn City Hall at 7:30 P.M., bn July 25, 1968 The meeting adjourned at 1:45 P.M. Submitted by, Gordon L. Hall Secretary-Treasurer POLICY STATEMENT VALLEY REGIONAL PLANNING COMMISSION JULY 1968 The Valley Regional Planning Commission is a voluntary association of Municipalities and King County formed to cooperatively approach problems of regional nature, and, through study, coordinate individual and collective approaches to the soulution of those problems. POLICY STATEMENT To better achieve the stated purpose of the Commission, additional class of 'Associate Members' is created. Associate Member classification includes representatives from school districts, Chambers of Commerce, public and private utilities; including the railroads, power companies, telephone companies and the serving natural gas comapny. This Policy Statement is in keeping with State Enabling Legislation, RCW 36.7OoO60, "A douuty or a city may join with one or more other counties, cities and towns, and/or with one or more school districts, public utility districts, private utilities, housing authorities, port districts, or any other private or public organizations inte— lrested in regional planning to form and organize a regional planning commission and provide for the administration of its affairs."
