GENERAL MEETING
RENTON CITY HALL - SEPTEMBER 11 , 1969
Iry Iverson was acting Chairman of the meeting in the absense
of Gordon Hall .
A letter was read from Mr. Masco of the Puget Sound Governmental
Conference, confirming the request of VRPC to aid in the study of the
"911 " project . This is the Regional Emergency Telephone Project.
A report was read on the Railroad Crossing Study by Gordon
Gould. A Committee report was given, The Mass Transit Committee
has developed a policy statement that will be presented to the
Executive Board September 30, 1969, and to the general members at
the October meeting.
Nominations for the officers for the year 1970 were read.
Nominations are: Gordon Y Ericksen, Renton, President; Irvin Iverson,
Tukwila, First Vice-President; Francis Pugh, Pacific, Second Vice-
President ; Richard Fiedler, Auburn, Third Vice-President ; Gordon
Gould, Algona, Secretary; and Don Eide, Kent, Treasurer.
Mrs. Jritt and Mrs. Charnell of the South King County League of
Women Voters, presented a booklet, "Regional Planning and Related
Land Use" . This is a study to examine public and private groups
involved in land use planning.
Mr. Pat Lewis , of Pacific Northwest Bell Telephone , spoke on the
Emergency Telephone System 11911 ". The basic concern at the present _
time is to provide service to the public by providing one number to
call in any emergency. At the present time a person may dial 110" for
the Operator. The Operator has to many other things to do to handle
emergencies efficently. The main problem of the "911 " program, would
be the jurdistional boundaries . However , careful planning on a
regional basis, by starting with the governmental bodies of the area
collecting information. The PNB would then conduct a feasibility
study of the program for the area.
Ethan Robbins presented his study of a mass transit Man for the
area between Tacoma and Everett. His plan would be to use the existing
rail lines in the area.
The next general meeting will be held at the Auburn City Hall ,
at 7:30 P.M. , on October 9, 1969.
