CALL TO ORDER:
The meeting was called to order at 7:30 P.M. by First Vice.
President , Jan Klippert.
REPORTS:
Jan Klippert announced the VRPC office has been sending copies
of bills before the Legislature, to its members. These are just
a few bills picked at random from the Legislative Bulletin that
is sent to our office by the Association of Washington Cities.
The comments that are printed with each bill , are the comments
of the Association of Washington Cities and not those of the VRPC.
Gordon Gould gave a report on the seminars being held at
the Green River Community College . The third session will be
held March 19th and the subject will be on the Economics of the
Valley. Jan Klippert will be the moderator of this session.
The previous sessions have been well attended and have produced
some very interesting information. Any comments or questions
regarding the seminar, may be directed to the VRPC office. UL 4.3020
Iry Iverson announced there has been a shift in the personnel
in the VRPC office. By mutual agreement of both parties, Ron
Thompson is no longer with the Valley Regional Planning Commission.
Rudi Gast has been asked to outline a program to be presented
to the Mayors on the 13th of March. This meeting will be held
in the VRPC office at 4:30 P.M. and will be open to the public.
Frank Zepp, of Tukwila, was asked to review the Comprehensive
Sewerage Plan for the City of Auburn. In a let-ter to the Valley
Regional Planning Commission, he stated the plan as presented
is very thorough and complete, and full consideration has been
taken of the ultimate growth of the City and it ' s environ.
GUEST SPEAKER:
Larry Coffman, Transportation and Planning Coordinator of
Metro, outlined plans to be presented for a rapid-transit program.

He stressed the fact that each of the plans were in the Manning
stage only, and at this time there was no definite ratan to be
put before the public. State support for a rapid-transit plan
is now being sought from the state legislature , Baldwin Sammis
said it was his opinion that it would be a losing propostic- to
have rapid transit in the Valley area. Mr. Coffman announced
that at the present time the only people that would be able to
vote on this issue would be the people of Renton, because Metro
boundaries do not extend farther south than Renton. Pat Hogue
said that our problems are in the Valley area, and transportation
between Des Moines, Burien, and the Valley Cities now, and not
in the Seattle area. Mr. Coffman said when a Man had been
finalized, it would be presented to the Valley Regional Planning
Commission for study.
A motion was made and seconded for the VRPC to study the
Metro mass-transit plans more thourghly and make a report at a
later date.
STUDY:
Jan Klippert announced a study will be made of the Flood
and Storm Drainage Control Plan for the Valley area. John Fournier
said this is one of the most important issues in the area. It
concerns the growth of the Valley. Baldy Sammis said everyone
should be encouraged to work on the Flood Control issue as it
is very vital to the Valley area. A committee will be formed
to study this issue and report to the VRPC in the very near future.
