GENERAL MEETING
PUGET SOUND GOVERNMENTAL OFFICE
JANUARY 22, 1969
The meeting was called to order by Gordon Hall , President,
at 7:40 P.M. He announced six items which are now on the
immediate study list for the VRPC. They are as follows:
1 . Analysis of needed capital improvement on South
180th Street.
2. Review of the Renton - Tukwila boundary line adjust-
ment.
3. Analysis of projected Kent and Auburn boundary line.
4. Continuance of the Railroad Crossing Study.
5. Analysis of the "Island Annexation Law".
6. Study of recent court decisions regarding Mobile Tiome
and Single Residence zoning.
Committees are now being formed to work on the above mentioned
items and results of the committees finding will be forwarded
to the Mayors and Councils of all member cities .
Mr. Halt also gave a report on the progress of the seminar,
"Putting Planning into Prospective", to begin the 29th of
January, at the Green River Community College.
Mr. Einar Syvertsen, Director of Planning for the Puget
Sound Gvoernmental Conference, was introduced as one of the
speakers of the evening. He described the organization and
goals of the PSGC. It is composed of four counties - King,
Kitsap, Pierce and Snohomish. He announced that out of 65
suburban communities - 14 are now members as well as Seattle,
Everett, Tacoma, and Bremerton.
It was recognized that many of the four central Puget
Sound counties problems involved more than one county and
could be studied more effectively on a regional basis. The
recommendations of the Conference were advisory only and the
county commissioners retain full responsibility .
Mr. Syvertsen presented a chart showing a group of studies
now being conducted, or will be in the very near future.
Also the different areas each study will be composed of.

Mr. Robert Shindler, Director of Transportation Planning,
described the studies being made of the travel patterns of
city and county requirements.
Mr. Chet 'Wheeler, King County Planning Member, requested
that all data be sent to the planners of the involved areas,
so it could be studied and considered in future planning.
In this way duplication could be avoided and agencies would
be able to work together better.
Mr. Syvertsen presented a large assortment of reports
and literature to the Valley Regional Planning Commission,
for their library . These will be listed and made available
for use to all members.
It was felt a better understanding had been reached '
between the Puget Sound Governmental Conference and the
Valley Regional Planning Commission regarding their working
together in the future.
Bob Shindler agreed to attend the VRPC Feburary meeting
in Kent , and to speak in support of Rapid Mass Transit .
The meeting adjourned at 9:30 P.M.
