ALASKAN FREIGHT AND COLSOLIDATORS OF WASHINGTON, INC.
Dick Caragol , accountant for Alaskan Freight and Consolidators, noted that the
company is basically a freight forwarder and consolidator, primarily engaged
in moving freight to Alaska. Sea-Land Service Incorporated is the principal
shipper, however, some use is made of Totem Ocean Trailer Express (TOTE). He
pointed out that the firm is now also getting into the trucking market, moving
freight to California and Hawaii. The proposed new facility will be a cross
loading dock with doors on both sides of the sixty-foot wide warehouse so that
freight may be received on one side and consolidated into vans for loading
onto Sea-Land and TOTE ships, for shipment.
Lawrence Campbell , architect, showed a site plan for the proposed facility to
be located on 6th Avenue, south of S. 228th, just south of the Weyerhaeuser
Building. The site consists of 2-1/2 acres and the building will house the
cross dock loading facility and a two-story office building. He noted that
the present Alaskan Freight Consolidators location in Kent was not large
enough to handle the types of containers required to load the freight. He
pointed out that the leased facility currently in use has been granted a one
year variance for removal of a planter strip in order to utilize more space

for operations. Campbell determined for Powers that mainline rail service was
® available and would be used.
Caragol determined for Miller that Food Shippers, Inc. was a sister company
and explained that under ICC Regulations, Food Shippers handled operations for
shipping over water and Alaskan Freight handled operations for trucking on
land. Both are owned by the same principals.
Resolution 1985-17, the Inducement Resolution for Alaskan Freight and
Consolidators of Washington, Inc. was introduced by DiJulio. Bailey moved to
adopt Resolution 1985-17. Miller seconded and the motion carried.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:50 a.m.
