The regular meeting of,the Civil Service Commission was cal.10 to order by
Chairman T. Richard Ried. In attendance: Commissioners'm 1E p16 G. Hinz and
Joseph A. Street, Assistant City,Administrator Webby, h3 �ftdariksen, and
Battalion Chief Bond. Acting City Attorney Williamson appeafed during
executive session.
Mr. Street moved to, approve the minutes of the September ,�10,'1946 meeting as
submitted. Ms. Hinz seconded. Motion carried.
Mr. Webby reported that the process to fill the City Attprp 's, position has
begun and a number of applications have been received. 46,,,isfd; there was a
very good group of candidates. It is anticipated that the";sgleiction will be
made by the middle of November and the position filled O3�,.0' ,,end of the
year.
Secretary reported the fi refi ghte,'r physical-agility exam v�►i, 1, be held this
Thursday and Friday, October 23 and 24. Battalion Chief ,d ;requested
permission to take all of the candidates who pass the p 1-agility exam
through the assessment lab. He explained that in taking; ► 50 candidates,
there was a possibility of losing some good candidates. ' 'i�s.l Hinz'
question, Chief Bond responded there will be about 20 to 1Q,jnore people to go
to the assessment lab which will require an additional day` dr two to complete
the assessment lab. Ms. Hinz moved to approve the request*om'the Fire
Department for all of the applicants who pass the physi"alp ility exam to
proceed to the assessment lab. Mr. Street seconded. Nip . �Csrried.
Secretary reported the Police Officer written exam will be conducted on
Saturday, November 8. An eligi,441 ity list will be established from those who
passed the written exam and the top 30 will be scheduled for a physical
fitness evaluation, which is scheduled for December 13. In response to
Chairman's questions, Secretary confirmed that the physical fitness is
pass/fail .
Copies of the letter of October16, 1986 from Chief Angeloliv David T. Hokit
of Curran, Kleweno and Johnson, regarding Troy Nutter, wepe,isent to the
Commission members prior to the meeting. Mr. Street moveo i� acknowledge
receipt of copies of the letter from David T. Hokit. 14s.,A nzlseconded.
Motion carried.
A letter from Steve Rettke, firefighter applicant, proteA$jj 0 ;the written
exam, was read. Also read, was the response from the letter dated
October 15, 1986. Mr. Street moved, Ms. Hinz seconded, tt� ii0Zpt the
correspondence into the record. Motion carried.

Copies of the letter dated September '37; 1986 from Chief Frederiksen to
Officer Curry were sent previously to ,the Commission members. Ms. Hinz moved
to accept the letter into the record. ` Mr. Street seconded. Motion carried.
Letter dated September 26, 1986 to Eric Pedersen, from Assistant Chief Berg,
informing him of his employment as a, probationary firefighter, effective
October 16, 1986, was read. Mr: Strt moved to accept the letter into theL.
record. Ms. Hinz seconded. Motion}carried.
Battalion Chief Bond requested approfiel of an examination for the position of
Battalion Chief in December if the )Wember bond levy passes. He noted there
were 16 eligible candidates for the 00sition. Mr. Street moved to approve the
examination process for Battalion Chief contingent upon the passage of the
November levy. Ms. Hinz seconded. Motion carried.
Mr. Webby noted Ms. Hinz include motltM regarding firefighters moving through
the physical-agility, which should include the assessment lab, and oral -
board. Ms. Hinz moved to amend the , vous motion to include the entire
process. Mr. Street seconded. The ' ition carried.
The next meeting is scheduled for 8 Thursday, November 20, 1986 in the
Council Chambers.

Frederiksen regarding disciplinary aeon. Executive session adjourned at
8:40 a.m.
