November 2, 1987
The scheduled meeting of the Kent Board of Adjustment was called ,to order by
Chair Mauritsen on the evening of Monday, November 2, 1987, at 7:30 p.m. in the
Kent City Hall, City Council Chambers.

APPROVAL OF SEPTEMBER 8, 1987, Walter Flue MOVED that the minutes of
BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT MINUTES the September 8, 1987, Board of Adjust-
ment meeting be approved as printed.
Mr. Jarvis SECONDED the motion. Motion
carried.
CERTIFICATE OF APPOINTMENT Tracy Faust was presented a Certificate
of Appointment to the Board of Adjustment
by Chair Mauritsen.
Chair Mauritsen administered the oath for all who intended to speak.
HOLMAN DISTRIBUTION CENTER The applicant has requested the city
VARIANCE #V-87-6 to abstain from enforcing the zoning
code regarding inadequate parking on
the site until December 31 , 1988. Bill
Williamson, Assistant City Attorney,
explained that the ward of Adjustment
has authority to hear substantive
matters, but the issue of enforcement
is an executive function which rests with the Planning Director of the City of
Kent. Mr. Williamson suggested that the Board strike the Specific Variance
Request #1 portion of the application and allow the hearing to proceed on the
substantive variance issue.

Ms. Faust MOVED that the Board strike Specific Variance Request #1 as outside
the jurisdiction of the Board of Adjustment. Mr. Flue SECONDED the motion.
Motion carried unanimously.
Discussion followed regarding the options. Bob Downey, representative of the
applicant, requested a one-month delay.
Ms. Faust MOVED to continue the hearing to December 7, 1987, with the proviso
that the applicant submit his request to the Planning Department within the
following two weeks. Mr. Jarvis SECONDED the motion. Motion carried unanimously.
ADJOURNMENT Mr. Flue MOVED and Ms. Faust SECONDED
the motion to adjourn the meeting.
Motion carried. The meeting was
adjourned at 8:05 p.m.
