HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Committees - Public Safety (Committee) - 10/18/1988 SAFETY COMMITTEE MINUTES October 18, 1988 Present: Jim Ausburn, Jennifer Carey, Ken Cooper, Jack Fingold Geneva Obenchain, Greg McCormick, Joe Sams and Lori Brown The following items were discussed: PUBLIC WORKS INCIDENT: Trip on a stand that sticks out from dividers caused a fall over a file cabinet. COMMENTS: Committee felt that real dividers should be purchased to replace the temporary. FIRE INCIDENT: Arriving at the scene of an accident, fire engine hit the passenger side mirror against a parked vehicle mirror. Supervisor believed the engine pulled in too close. COMMENTS: Committee felt that this was a preventable accident, and that the driver should attend defensive driving school. FIRE INCIDENT: Burned skin while bleeding pressure from an Anhydrous Ammonia leak. According to supervisor, employee extended arms past the protective clothing. COMMENTS: Committee determined that proper clothing should be worn when responding to hazardous materials calls. ENGINEERING INCIDENT: Hit another van while backing out of puking space. COMMENTS: Double parking should be eliminated in the Engineering parking lot. Accident was determined to be preventable and Committee felt that employees should park in designated parking stalls only. i PARKS AND RECREATION INCIDENT: Injured back while lifting a loaded barrel of trash up and over into a dumpster. COMMENTS: Committee determined that the employee probably used improper lifting procedures. Accident was preventable if employee had used proper lifting procedures or had called for help. SPECIAL POPULATIONS INCIDENT: _ Kicked in the jaw by a student while spurting a gymnastics routine. Supervisor recommends using two spotters for larger children. COMMENTS: Accident was preventable and two spotters should be used. POLICE DEPARTMENT INCIDENT: Fall from chain link fence while checking alarm. COMMENTS: Alarm was owned by the business, accident was nonpreventable.
