HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Committees - Public Safety (Committee) - 09/20/1988 W SAFETY COMMITTEE MINUTES September 20, 1988 Present: Jim Ausburn, John Bond, Jennifer Carey, Ken Cooper, Jack Fingold, Don Fronsdahl, Rose Grabert, Bruce Lipp Greg McCormick, Beth Remington, Marion Taylor, Les Wong, Joe Sams and Lori Brown The following items were discussed: PUBLIC WORKS INCIDENT: Strained back as a result of lifting large rocks out of a manhole. COMMENTS: Employee was not standing when injured. Determined to V be a nonpreventable accident. PUBLIC WORKS INCIDENT: Employee backed into a vehicle that was, towing his own vehicle out of a .ditch. COMMENTS: Committee recommended using four wheel drive vehicles for inspectors in Engineering. Accident was determined nonpreventable. SENIOR CENTER INCIDENT: Step ladder was bent while driving vehicle onto a ferry. COMMENTS: Committee felt that the accident was preventable and that the ladder should be up' when driving in town. PUBLIC WORKS INCIDENT: Employee cut hand with a razor blade while scraping a decal off of a window. COMMENTS: Accident was determined preventable. PUBLIC WORKS INCIDENT: Employee injured top of foot while using a hand held compactor. COMMENTS: Accident was determined to be preventable. The Committee recommended that the employee be more careful. SAFETY MINUTES Page 2 PUBLIC WORKS INCIDENT: Employee twisted back while lifting table's from a truck. COMMENTS: Committee recommended that in the future two men should be used to perform this type of activity. In addition to employee injuries and accidents, the Safety Committee discussed the purpose and history 0 the Safety Committee. A list of videos which are available from Scott Wetzel Services was also distributed to Committee members.
