EMPLOYEE WELLNESS PROGRAM City Administrator, Brent McFall, noted that he had obtained Health and Wellness proposals from a number of Health and Wellness providers. He noted that the Health and Wellness issue was not new to the City, that the Fire Department was currently running a fairly successful program, and that the City planned in the Spring of 1987 to extend a program to all City employees, and had been working with its health insurance consultant to develop such a program. Since that time, a draft of the program has been presented to the City. In addition, Nick Capato representing Park Avenue Fitness has approached the City about using his facility. Savings could be in the form of reduced worker's compensation claims, reduced health insurance cost, improved moral, improved productivity, improved attendance among other aspects. Representative of the Chamber of Commerce commented that the program which was proposed to provide a trail period of 60 days, be extended for possibly 6 months and that the program be a shared cost program where both the employee and the City participate. After the discussion on these issues, Councilmember Christi Houser, asked that other providers in the area be contacted to see what their programs could do for the City employees and how they could be implemented. Based on this request, the Committee decided to extend the discussion of this issue to their October 30th meeting. 66F-IF
