January 15, 2004
COMMITTEE MEMBERS: Debbie Raplee, Les Thomas, Deborah Ranniger, Chair
The Special Meeting was called to order by Deborah Ranniger at 5:OOPM. Introduction of the
newly elected members was made by Chair Deborah Ranniger.
Approval of Minutes of December 9,2003
Committee Member Les Thomas moved to approve the minutes of the December 9, 2003
meeting. The motion was seconded and passed 3-0.
State of WA Department of Health ¢rant—Accept
Fire Chief Jim Schneider reviewed the grant and the proposed use of funds.
Debbie Raplee moved to recommend accepting the State of Washington Department of
Health grant award in the amount of$2,000.00,and the in-kind grant of 150 smoke
detectors (10-year lithium), and placing it on the Consent Calendar fo the January 20,2004
Council Meeting, and to establish budget documents as required. The motion was seconded
and passed 3-0.
Memorandum of Agreement Between the Bureau of ATF and the City of Kent Fire
_Department-Authorize
Fire Chief Jim Schneider explained the purpose of the memorandum.
Les Thomas moved to recommend authorizing the Mayor to sign the memorandum of
Agreement Between the Bureau of ATF and the City of Kent Fire Department,and that this
be placed on the Consent Calendar of the January 20,2004 Council Meeting. The motion
was seconded and passed 3-0.
Washington Traffic Safety Commission grant —Accept
Police Chief Ed Crawford reviewed the WTSC grant award.
Debbie Raplee moved to recommend authorizing the Kent Police Department to accept the
Washington Traffic Safety Commission grant for 2004 in the amount of$5,000.00,and
placing it on the Consent Calendar for the January 20,2004 Council Meeting, and to
establish budget documents as required. The motion was seconded and passed 3-0.
National Night Out Award—Information Only
Police Chief Ed Crawford introduced Judi Mauhl,Publication Education Specialist,who
explained how the City of Kent won the award for its Block Watch and NNO activities in 2003.
The meetingadjourned at 5:13 PM.
