TERM OF NON-VOTING MEMBER - HUMAN SERVICES COMMISSION
Senior Planner Lin Ball reported the Human Services Commission has
recommended that the term of the non-voting agency member be
expanded to two years. Councilman Dowell so MOVED. Councilwoman
Woods SECONDED. Motion carried.
CATHOLIC COMMUNITY SERVICES SENIOR COMPANION PROGRAM - REALLOCATION
OF FUNDS
Ms. Ball reported that Catholic Community Services (CCS) will not
be able to sponsor the Senior Companion Program this year. The
agency has asked that the $7500 originally allocated to that
program be transferred to another senior program within the CCS
agency. The Senior Companion Program is seeking another sponsor
and would like the funds to remain in their program.
The Senior Companion Program assists frail elderly to keep them in
their homes longer. The Volunteer Chore Ministry, another senior
program administered by Catholic Community Services, does the same
type of service but administers the program differently.
Volunteers do such things as laundry, running errands, and
providing transportation to medical services. CCS uses the funding
to provide staffing, program supplies, training and recruitment of
volunteers, and program materials.
The Human Services Commission wants the funds to remain with a
program for seniors which serves Kent residents. They believe
these goals would be accomplished through CCS. The Commission
recommends allocating $3750 to Volunteer Chore Ministry, with $2000
earmarked for emergency aid for seniors and the balance used with
an emphasis on creating Kent-specific development materials. The
Commission recommends that the remaining $3750 be placed in the
Commission's reserve account.
Councilman Dowell MOVED and Councilwoman Woods SECONDED the motion
to recommend adoption of the Human Services Commission
recommendation. Motion carried.
