Kent, WA 98032 Dear Mayor Kelleher, Due to conflicts of time and schedule, I find it necessary to resign my position as a Commissioner with the Kent Civil Service Commission. It has been a pleasure serving with the Commission and I am . pleased that I had the opportunity. I look forward to serving the City in other capacities. Sincerely, Robb Dreblow • KENT POLICE DEPARTMENT January 11, 1990 TO: Officer Paul Petersen FROM: Chief Rod Frederiksen 947- SUBJECT: Extension of Probationary Police Officer Status I have received and reviewed your performance evaluations and recommendations of your Field Training Officers, Division Supervisors and Division Commander . Jim Miller. They have expressed great concern regarding one important area of your job performance. That area is a well documented difficulty on your part of hearing radio traffic directed to you or your fellow officers. On the bright side, your F.T.O. 's and supervisors have indicated that your other job responsibilities are being performed satisfactorily and in the case of communication and people skills, above average. • Based upon our concern for your safety and that of your fellow officers due to your difficulties in hearing radio traffic, I am extending your probationary status for 90 days. During this time period, your supervisors will make every effort to assist you in bringing your job performance to an acceptable level . I personally believe that you possess the skills to become an excellent police officer. I strongly encourage you to work closely with your supervisors and to correct this performance deficiency. Please bear in mind, however, that at least a satisfactory performance rating is necessary for your continuation of employment with the Kent Police Department. We want you to succeed! Should you wish to discuss this issue with me, please schedule an appointment with my secretary. cc: Civil Service Commission ✓ Capt. Miller Lt. Mitchell iSgt. Rufener Officer Gustafson 3021G-1G • KENT POLICE DEPARTMENT JANUARY 16, 1990 TO: Civil Service Commission FROM: Rod Frederiksen, Chief of Police KH7 SUBJECT: Extension of Probationary Police Officer Status The purpose of this memorandum is to document my concern regarding the possibility that Probationary Police Officer Paul Petersen was not hearing radio transmissions due to a hearing problem. On January 12 , 1990 at approximately 1: 30 p.m. , Captain Miller and I met with Officer Petersen to discuss my extension of his probationary status for 90 days. During this conversation, officer Petersen advised that he did not feel that he had physical difficulties with his hearing, but rather some difficulties concentrating on radio transmissions. During our conversation there was no evidence that Officer Petersen had a physical problem with his hearing. In addition, Officer Petersen had a Departmental medical examination which included a • hearing test. There is no indication of any medical problems which would cause the job performance deficiencies noted by Patrol supervisors and field training officers. Again, we will do all that we can to ensure that Officer Petersen completes his probationary period. cc: Sandra Driscoll, City Attorney RHF:klr • MEMORANDUM • JANUARY 18, 1990 TO: CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION FROM: NORM ANGELO, FIRE CHIEF SUBJECT: SECOND CLASS PROMOTIONAL E --------------------------------------------------------------- Please be advised that Firefighter Scott Howard has successfully passed his Second Class Promotional Exam with scores as follows: Text: 89. 67% Maps: 97 .96% Practical: PASS This promotion to Second Class is effective January 19, 1990. • kj cc: B/C Robertson Local 1747 payroll/personnel file MEMORANDUM • JANUARY 18, 1990 TO: CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION FROM: NORM ANGELO, FIRE CHIEF SUBJECT: SECOND CLASS PROMOTIONAL EXAM/ --------------------------------------------------------------- Please be advised that Firefighter Kurt Self has successfully passed his Second Class Promotional Exam with scores as follows: Text: 90.89% Maps: 83.74% Practical: PASS This promotion to Second Class is effective January , 19, 1990. • kj cc: B/C Weatherill Local 1747 payroll/personnel file • MEMORANDUM • JANUARY 18, 1990 TO: CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSIONn, FROM: NORM ANGELO, FIRE CHIEF SUBJECT: SECOND CLASS PROMOTIONAL EXAM --------------------------------------------------------------- Please be advised that Firefighter Steve Parsons has successfully passed his Second Class Promotional Exam with scores as follows: Text: 96. 38% Maps: 97.96% Practical: PASS This promotion to Second Class is effective January 19, 1990. • kj cc: B/C Weatherill Local 1747 payroll/personnel file • • MEMORANDUM JANUARY 18, 1990 TO: CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION j FROM: NORM ANGELO, FIRE CHIEF ?,?
