CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES
October 17, 1996

Chair Pattison called the meeting to order at 8:05 a.m.

A. Accept into Record
1. Chair Pattison moved to approve the Minutes from the September 19, 1996 Civil Service
Commission Meeting. Seconded and carried.
2. Lieutenant Bob Holt updated the Commission on the selection process for the Police
Evidence Technician and the Community Service Specialist.
For the record he asked for the Commissions approval to conduct physical agility exams
in line with the position descriptions for each position.
For the Community Service Specialist this would include lifting and carrying projectors
and screens and other props used for speeches and presentations to the community.
The exam would include lifting an appropriate weight in conjunction with what they
would be expected to lift on the job.
The Lead Evidence Technician physical agility exam would be along the same lines but
with items generic to the position.
Commissioner Pattison motioned that the physical agility exam for both Community
Service Specialist and Lead Evidence Technician be approved. Seconded and carried.

IV. NEW BUSINESS
A. Approval and Accept into Record
1. Chair Pattison moved to approve and accept into record the letter dated September 19,
1996 from Chief Crawford to Police Officers Cox, Bateman and Larue notifying them of
their successful completion of their probationary period effective September 19, 1996.
Seconded and carried.
2. Chair Pattison moved to approve and accept into record the letter dated October 2,
1996 from Chief Crawford to Derrick W. Focht confirming his appointment as
Probationary Police Officer effective October 15, 1996. Seconded and carried.
3. Chair Pattison moved to approve and accept into record the letter from Corrections
Officer candidate James P. Williams requesting that his name be removed from the
Corrections Officer Eligibility List. Seconded and carried.
4. Chair Pattison moved to approve and accept into record the Certified letter dated
October 3, 1996 from the Civil Service Examiner to Mr. James P. Williams
acknowledging his letter and notifying him of his removal from the Corrections Officer
Eligibility List. Seconded and carried.
5. Chair Pattison moved to approve and accept into record the resignation letter from
Corrections Officer Jill Kinsella resigning her position effective October 22, 1996.
Seconded and carried.
6. Chair Pattison moved to approve and accept into record the Certified letter dated
October 11, 1996 to John Stray notifying him that his name has been removed from the
Lateral Police Officer Eligibility List as he has accepted employment with the Federal
Way Police Department. Seconded and carried.
7. Chair Pattison moved to approve and accept into record the Certification letter dated
September 18, 1996 from the Civil Service Examiner establishing the Eligibility List for
Administrative Assistant 1. Seconded and carried.

Chair Pattison: "There being no other business to come before the Commission, I move to
adjourn." Seconded and carried.
Adjourned at 8:15 a.m.
The next Regular Meeting will be held on Thursday, November 21, 1996 at 8:00 a.m. in Council
Chambers West.
