MINUTES
August 17, 1989

The meeting was called to order at 8:0 a.m. by Chairman Jarvis.
REPORTS
City Attorney, Sandra Driscoll - informed the Commission
that at the recent City Council meeting, the Ordinance
extending Civil Service coverage to non-uniformed
personnel of the Police Department had been passed.
Fire Chief, Norm Angelo - stated that his department has
been very busy and will be hiring Firefighters off the
current eligibility list; also noting the certification
of the Fire Lieutenant Eligibility List at this
meeting.
Police Chief, Rod Frederiksen - no report.
Personnel Director, Mike Webby - no report
OLD BUSINESS
Chairman Jarvis entered a motion to approve the Minutes of
the July 20, 1989 meeting. Seconded by Mr.
Thornton. Motion carried.
Chairman Jarvis enterted a motion to certify the Eligibility
List for the position of Fire Lieutenant. Mr. Thornton
seconded. Motion carried.

Letter dated August 4, 1989 from Steven W. Hunt was
presented requesting his reinstatement to the position
of Police Officer.
Chief Frederiksen stated that he was strongly in favor
of reinstating Steven W. Hunt. He recommended that Mr.
Hunt be examined by a medical doctor of the Commission
choice and if recommended by such exam, be reinstated
immediately due to the fact that Police Deparment does
not have a current eligibility list.
Chairman Jarvis entered a motion that pending medical
confirmation of Mr. Hunt's ability to return to work,
Mr. Hunt be reinstated to his former status.
Procedures regarding reclassification requests for non-
uniformed personnel.
City Attorney, Sandra Driscoll noted that she is
reviewing the current process at this time. There is
not any information to be presented yet. Chairman
moved to table the item until further information is
made available. Seconded by Mr. Thornton. Motion
carried.
Chairman Jarvismotioned to accept into record a memo from
Fire Chief Angelo, stating that Ron Johnson has
successfully complete his probationary period as a
Lieutenent effective 8/l/89. Seconded by Mr. Thornton.
Motion carried.
Chairman Jarvismotioned to accept into record a memo from
Fire Chief Angelo, stating that John Keizer has
successfully complete his probationary period as a
Lieutenent effective 8/1/89. Seconded by Mr. Thornton.
Motion carried.
Chairman Jarvis motioned to accept into record memos from
Fire Chief Angelo, stating that Kevin Nee and John
Willits have successfully completed their probationary
period as a Lieutenant effective August 1, 1989, and
Aldrich Krepela has successfully passed the First Class
Exam and been promoted effective 7/16/89. Seconded by
Mr. Thornton. Motion carried.

Other new business:
Fire Chief Angelo noted that Lieutenant Bob
Pessemier has resigned leaving vacant a Lieutenant
position which will be filled from the current
Eligibility List.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at
8 : 06.
The next regular meeting is scheduled for September 21, 1989 at
8:00 a.m. in the Council Chambers.
