HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Committees - Civil Services Commission - 06/19/1986 (3) CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES June 19, 1986 The regular meeting was called to order by Chairman T. Richard Ried. Also in attendance: Commissioners Michele G. Hinz and Joseph A. Street, City Attorney DiJulio, and Battalion Chief Bond. Chief Frederiksen arrived after attending to other commitments. Ms. Hinz moved, Mr. Street seconded, to approve the minutes of the meeting of May 15, 1986 as submitted. Motion carried. The memo of May 13, 1986 to Firefighter Patrick O'Hern from Assistant Chief LaBore informing him of his passing grade of 93.1 percent on his First Class exam, was read. Secretary noted that Firefighter O'Hern's score was corrected to 94.1 percent and his First Class rank is effective May 16, 1986. Mr. Street moved, Ms. Hinz seconded, to accept the memo into the record. Motion carried. A memo of May 30, 1986 from Battalion Chief Bond to Firefighter/Inspector Kevin Kearns informed him of his score of 92 percent on the First Class exam, was read. Secretary related that the promotion is effective June 1 , 1986. Mr. Street moved, Ms. Hinz seconded, to accept the memo into the record. Motion carried. Revisions to Rule XIII, Sec. 1 , Rule XV, Secs. 1 , 2, and 3, and Rule XVI, Sec. 4, were distributed. Mr. DiJulio related that the Seattle Public Safety Civil Service Commission has adopted medical standards for fire applicants following a lengthy period of study and expense of retaining consultants. A standard for police will be available later. He said we will be getting a copy of the standards at some time in the future, and the Commission will have to take a closer look at the medical standards. The memo of June 10, 1986 from Battalion Chief Bond giving the following dates for the entry level Firefighter exam was read: August 10 and 17 - Advertisement September 24 and 25 - Written Exam October 23 and 24 - Physical Agility Exam November 13 and 14 - Assessment Lab December 1 through 5 - Oral Board To update the Commission records, secretary noted receipt of a letter granting approval of the request for disability retirement to John Henkel , effective September 17, 1984. The letter of June 10, 1986 to John Klopfenstein from the Department of Retirement Systems affirming his disability retirement, effective June 14, 1986, was read. Also received was an identical letter to Steven D. Barber, dated June 10, 1986 affirming his disability retirement, effective June 8, 1986. Mr. Street moved, Ms. Hinz seconded, to accept the correspondence into the record. Motion carried. Battalion Chief Bond apprised the Commission of the Department's intent to hold a lieutenant exam early next year to replace Barber and Klopfenstein. The next regular meeting will be held on July 17, 1986 at 8:00 a.m. in the Council Chambers. The meeting adjourned at 8:17 a.m. to go into executive session. Respectfully submitted, � t� Amy E.
