July 18, 1985
The regular meeting was called to order by Chairman T. Richard Ried. Also in
Attendance: Commissioners Michelle Hinz, Joseph Street, City Attorney
DiJulio, Chief Angelo, Battalion Chief Bond, and Lieutenant LaBelle. Peggy
Powell , Personnel Analyst, was also present.
Mr. Street moved, Ms. Hinz seconded, to approve the minutes of June 27, 1985
as submitted. Motion carried.
The City Attorney requested an Executive Session so he may report on current
litigations. Chairmen replied that the meeting will go into Executive Session
at the end of the meeting to also include a letter of appeal from a police
applicant.
The letter dated July 11 , 1985 from Tom Smith, J.A.T.C. Secretary, giving
approval for Firefighter Patrick Dale's early Firefighter First Class testing
was read. Ms. Hinz moved, Mr. Street seconded, to accept the J.A.T.C. letter
into the record. Motion carried. The Commission had approved the early
testing at the previous meeting pending receipt of this letter.
Lieutenant Everett's memo of June 27, 1985 requesting an examination for new
officers was read. Upon Chairman's question, Lieutenant LaBelle responded
that he agreed with the recommendations. Mr. Street moved that the letter be
accepted and the examination be authorized. Ms. Hinz seconded. Motion
carried.
Chief Angelo's letter of July 2, 1985 to Firefighter Kip Ware granting him
leave without pay after exhaustion of his sick and vacation leave, was read.
Chief Angelo commented that Firefighter Ware was injured before attending the
academy which developed into a disability. He added that Firefighter Ware is
an exceptional and dedicated firefighter. Ms. Hinz moved, Mr. Street
seconded, to accept Chief Angelo's letter into the record. Motion carried.
Copy of a memo dated July 3, 1985 to Dennis Byerly from Mayor Hogan telling
him of his appointment to Acting Chief was read. Secretary noted the
effective date of the appointment is July 8, 1985. Ms. Hinz moved, Mr. Street
seconded, to accept the memo into the record. Motion carried. .
Before the meeting went into Executive Session the date of the next meeting
was confirmed: Thursday, August 15, 1985 at 8:00 a.m. in the Council Chambers.
Meeting went into Executive Session at 8:10 a.m.
The meeting reconvened at 8:30 a.m. Mr. Street moved that the letter from
S. Jon Huntsberry be accepted and the secretary's memo with her
recommendations be accepted and approved. Ms. Hinz seconded. Motion carried.
Meeting adjourned at 8:31 a.m.
