September 15, 1983
The regular meeting of the Commission was called to order by Chairman T .
• Richard Ried at 8:00 a.m. In attendance: Commissioners Joseph Street
and Donald Whitener; ,Ehief Angelo; Chief Skewes and Captain Rees.
Mr. Whitener moved, Mr. Street seconded, to approve the minutes of the
August 18, 1983 meeting. Motion carried. Correction of the Chairman 's
name will be made.
The Notice of Appeal of William N . Nirk was accepted into the records.
Captain Rees reported that the department is in the process of giving poly-
graph examinations to the three candidates who passed the oral board on
August 25th. He said there is one vacant position at the present time.
Chief Skewes added that Jerald Beal received permanent disability retirement.
The memo of September 12, 1983 from Chief Angelo was read. He requested
tabling of the early promotional testing issue until the regular October
meeting. Mr. Street moved the memo be approved and the Nutter petition
be considered at the October meeting. Mr. Whitener seconded. Motion carried.
Secretary reported the 1984 budget request has been accepted and reviewed
by the staff. She noted that the physical agility ' dummy' (Rugged Ron) cost
has been incorporated into the Commission alternate budget.
The memo of September 12, 1983 from Chief Angelo regarding the resignation
of Firefighter Ted Burke effective September 16, 1983 was read. Also a copy
of the memo of September 13, 1983 from Chief Angelo to Ted Burke confirming
• the resignation was read. It was moved by Mr. Street, seconded by Mr. Whitener,
to accept the memo and contents into the record. Motion carried.
Chief Skewes stated for the Commission ' s information that at the next or
November meeting, the department will ask for a sergeant ' s examination. He
said a sergeant is out on medical leave.
In responseto Captain Rees ' request, secretary will contact the Training
Commission to see if a new law enforcement officer test is available.
The next regular meeting will be held on Thursday, October '20, 1983, at
8:00 a .m. in the Council Chambers .
Mr. Street moved, Mr. Whitener seconded, to adjourn the meeting. Motion
carried. Meeting adjourned at 8: 16 a.m.
