HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Committees - Civil Services Commission - 10/23/1980 KENT CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES October 23, 1980 The regular meeting of the Kent Civil Service Commission was called to order by Chairman Ried. Present were: Commissioner Donald Whitener, Assistant Chief Berg, Captain Byerly, Detective Kelch and Firefighter/Mechanic Woodin. It was moved and seconded to approve the minutes of September 18, 1980 as sub- mitted. Motion carried. Having no response from either the Police Guild or the Firefighters' Union, a motion was made and seconded to approve the changes in time limit from four (4) to six (6) months in Rule XII, Section 4, "Provisional appointment". Motion carried. Assistant Chief Berg requested a Firefighter entrance examination as soon as possible so that an eligibility list could be established by December 1st. It was moved and seconded to authorize a Firefighter entrance examination. Motion carried. Secretary was authorized to order an inspection copy of a validated Firefighter entrance examintion. Captain Byerly reported that Sergeant Hammer has been selected fill the position of Acting Support Services Commander (letter reference to this assignment to appear in the minutes). The memo dated September 22, 1980 from the Mayor to Dale Freelove informing (iim of his appointment as Acting Fire Chief was read. It was moved and sec- onded the letter be made a matter of record. Motion carried. A letter was read from Randy G. Anderson requesting his reclassification date from Second-class Firefighter to First-class Firefighter be changed from January 1, 1981 to November 1, 1980 because of the previous work credit he has and the hours of schooling at Bates Vocational Technical School. Based upon Chief Berg's recommendations, a motion was made and s econded to grant Firefighter Anderson's request. The memo of October 22, 1980 from Chief Skewes advising of the selection of Sergeant Knute Hammer to the position of Acting Support Services Commander, effective October 27, 1980, was read. It was moved and seconded to accept the letter into the records. Motion carried. At the request of the Police Department, the meeting went into executive session at this time. When the meeting reconvened, based on the recommendations of Detective KeLch and the results of the testing to date, it was moved and seconded to remove the following names from the Law Enforcement Officer Eligibility List for failing the Oral Board and/or:background investigation: �- Richard C. Gordon, failed Oral Board Raymond W. Wakeman, failed background Steven L. Glass, failed background Steven L. Howe, failed Oral Board Motion carried.
