HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Committees - Civil Services Commission - 05/15/1980 CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES May 15, 1980 The regular meeting of the Commission was called to order by Chairman T. Richard Ried. In attendance were: Commissioners Donald Whitener and Terry Yahn, Chief Foster, Assistant Chief Berg, Captain Byerly, Detective Kelch, Firefighter/Mechanic Woodin and Firefighter Somerville. The minutes of the special meeting of March 17, regular meeting of April 17 and special meeting of April 20, 1980 were approved as submitted. A motion was made and seconded to correct the Fire Lieutenant Eligibility List date to April 17, 1980, the date on which the List was certified and approved by the Com- mission. Motion carried. Secretary reported that the assessors for the L.E. Sergeant's examination are. meeting with Dr. Smith this afternoon for training. The letter from Hamley and Hamley representing Gary A. Forrest was read. A motion was made and seconded to refer the letter to City Attorney Mirk for his action and response. Motion carried. Chief Foster reported that he has not yet made an appointment for Lieutenant be- cause of the protest by Mike Somerville. He also reported on the retirement of Ervin Fleming effective April 27, 1980. Captain Byerly requested an executive session at the conclusion of the meeting. In regard to the letter from Michael Somerville, as Mr. Somerville had no comment to make, the Chairman appointed two members of the Commission with the Secre- tary to review and investigate the allegations in Mr. Somerville's letter and report back at a special meeting on May 29, 1980 at 12:00 noon at Fire Station Headquarters. The letters from Chief Skewes regarding the employment of: Geary C. Murray as Police Officer C-1, effective May 19, 1980; Robert E. Dodson, Allen J. Emerson, Robert D. Kellams, Rodger L. Kellams and Jesus Marroquin as Probationary Patrolmen, effective May 6, 1980, were read. A motion was made and seconded to accept the letters into the records. Motion carried. The letter from the Ellensburg Civil Service Commission requesting information pertaining to the requirements for entry level Police Officer was read. Secretary was instructed to send a letter with the requirements. The next meeting date is 8:00 a.m. , June 19, 1980 at Fire Station Headquarters.
