HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Committees - Civil Services Commission - 06/21/1979 KENT CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES June 21,, 1979 The monthly meeting was called to order by Commissioner Donald Whitener. Present were: Commissioner T. Richard Ried, Chief Skewes, Deputy Chief Freelove and Assistant Chief Berg. The minutes of the meetings of May 17 and June 8, 1979 were approved. Chief %ewes reported that a response will be forthcoming from Attorney Mirk in regards to a conflict between the police labor agreement and the Civil Service Rules and Regulations. Chief Skewes reported that Chief Foster informed him that the proposed changes on Rule XII of the Civil Service Rules and Regulations are not comp- lete as yet. Chief Skewes reported that the Law Enforcement regional testing project is scheduled for the latter part of September. He also reported he will be attending a-:meeting on minority recruitment and report back to the Commis- sion. A motion was made and seconded to participate in the forthcoming test. Motion carried. Upon Chief Skewe's recommendation, a motion was made and seconded to remove Bert W. Combs from the Law Enforcement Eligibility List. Motion carried. Based upon the background investigation, a motion was made and seconded to remove Richard D. Johnson from the L.E. Eligibility List. Motion carried. Charles G. Larrison also failed the background investiga- tion; consequently, it was moved, seconded and carried that his name be removed from the L.E. Eligibility List. The letters from Richard D. Wentz, Robert R. Fox, and Robert W. Sherer, all police applicants, were read and accepted into the records. A motion was made and seconded to renew the I.P.M.A. membership for 1979. Motion carried. Deputy Chief Freelove recommended extending the Fkrefi.ghter Eligibility List for six months. A motion was made and seconded to extend the Fire- fighter Eligibility List of January 18, 1979 for six months. Motion carried.
