March 14, 1979
The monthly meeting of the Civil Service Commission was called to order
by Commissioner Donald Whitener. In attendance were: Commissioner
T. Richard Ried, Assistant Chief Berg and Lieutenant Boudreau.
The minutes of the meeting of February 22, 1979 were approved.
Lieutenant Boudreau stated that it was his and Chief Skewes' recommendation
that the essay and resume' portions be eliminated from the present Law
Enforcement examination until it can be re-evaluated for validation. The
Wollack test has no provision for essay or resume'. A motion was made
and seconded to eliminate the essay and resume grading from the current
examination. Motion carried.
Lieutenant Boudreau, with Chief Skewes' approval and request from the
latest L.E. Oral Board, also recommended requesting City Attorney Mirk
to research the validity of eliminating or reducing veteran's preference
from the present 10% to 5 points. A motion was made to direct corres-
pondence to Attorney Mirk asking him of the validity of eliminating or
reducing the veteran's preference from 10% to 5 points. Motion was
seconded and carried.
Andrew J. Melluzzo's letter of resignation, effective January 8, 1979,
was read and accepted into the records.
Copy of the letter from the City Attorney to the Human Rights Commission
in regard to Tiffany Gatliff, police applicant, was read and accepted into
the records.
The next meeting is slated for 8:00 a.m. , April 19, 1979 at Fire Station
Headquarters.
Meeting adjourned at 8:50 a.m.
