CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES
January 18, 1979
The regular meeting of the Civil Service Commission held at Fire Station
Headquarters was called to order by Chairman Norwood Cunningham. In
attendance were: Commissioners T. Richard Ried and Donald Whitener,
Deputy Chief Freelove, Assistant Chief Berg and Chief Skewes. Also
present were: Officer Charles Miller of the Police Department, Capt.
Orndorff, Lt. Tom Campbell, Lt. Dale Robertson and Firefighter First
Class Ervin Fleming of the Fire Department.
A motion was made and seconded to approve the minutes of the December 14,
1978 meeting. Motion carried.
Chief Freelove reported that the Firefighters' examination was completed as
of last night with 43 names on the Eligibility List.
The Secretary reported there are 149 accepted candidates to take the Law
Enforcement Officer written examination at the University of Washington
on February 10, 1979.
After considerable discussion on the subject of employee performance
evaluation by the representatives of the fire and police departments and
members of the Commission, the Commission came to the conclusion to
have each department develop a standard evaluation guideline and present
it at the next meeting for further consideration.
Deputy Chief Freelove mentioned that the values needed reviewing on the
different portions of the Firefighter exam.
A motion was made and seconded to approve the revised information letter
to applicants. Motion carried.
A motion was made and seconded to certify the Eligibility List prepared
and submitted by the Secretary and Chief Examiner for Firefighter as
follows:

Chief Skewes reported that oral board and background investigation training
for Law Enforcement Officer examination has been completed.
