August 23, 1978
The regular meeting of the Kent Civil Service Commission was called to
order by Chairman Norwood Cunningham. In attendance were: Commissioner
Don Whitener, Chief &ewes and Deputy Chief Freelove.
A motion was made and seconded to approve the minutes of the meeting of
July 20, 1978. Motion carried.
A motion was made and seconded to approve the Eligibility List for Police
Officer prepared by the Secretary as follows:

Steven B. Koransky
Robert M. Boone
Andrew J. Melluzzo
John C. Parmann
Mark G. Wentworth
John R. Blankenship
DonaldR. Winters
Larry P. O'Leary
Loren W. Shumate
�. Brian P. Vold

Peter A. Verhaar II
Motion carried.
Secretary reported that the announcements for the forthcoming L.E. Sergeant's
examination were posted a week ago.
It was moved and seconded to request the same budget for 1979 except to request
$1,000 for Advertising and $100 for Travel and Mileage. Motion carried.
Chief Freelove reported that Bill Johnson and James Moline passed their Fire-
fighter Second Class examination in July. He also reported that Robert Jennings
was eligible for Firefighter First Class on August 1, 1978. A motion was made
and seconded to extend the Firefighter Eligibility List of January 26, 1978 for
six months. Motion carried.
A letter from David M. Claeys, police applicant, was read. Mr. Claeys requested
an explanation for his failing the Oral Board interview. Secretary was instructed
to inform him of his relative rating with the other applicants' scores on the oral
interview and where he failed with the Oral Board.
Chief Skewes reported that Michael Jennings has resigned effective August 25, 1978.

Next meeting date is September 21 , 1978, 8:00 a.m. at the Fire Station
Headquarters.
