HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Committees - Civil Services Commission - 01/26/1978 CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION MEETING January 26, 1978 1 The regular meeting of the Civil Service Commission was held at Station 1, Kent Fire Department. Present were Chairman Ken Yahn, Norwood Cunningham, Chief Foster and Lieutenant Boudreau. Robert Hankins is being transferred to Idaho and has submitted his resignation from the Commission. The minutes of the meeting of November 29, 1977 were approved. There was no meeting in December due to illnesses of Commissioners Yahn and Cunningham. A motion was made and approved to certify the Eligibility List prepared and submitted by the Secretary for Firefighter as follows: Randy G. Anderson Ernest R. Ride out Michael R. Ernst Andrew M. Bjorn Patrick S. Ellis Mark S. Mannard Donald L. Perry Kevin R. Nee William J. VanderPas Michael A. Pfannenstiel Roy W. Brewer Chief Foster reported that Anderson, Rideout, Ernst, Ellis and Nee are in the process of being hired and that Bjorn has declined the position. A motion was made and approved to certify the Eligibility List prepared by the Secretary for Law Enforcement Officer as follows: Donald F. Spadoni William M. Schrier James M. Miller Steven W. Ohlde DennisR. Winn Steven A. Rehaume Robert W. Renwick Lieutenant Boudreau reported all the applicants, with the exception of Dennis Winn who has accepted another position elsewhere , will be appointed if they can pass the physical, psychological and polygraph tests. Chief Foster reported that Captain Sells will be retiring for medical reasons and Captain Bridge broke his ankle on duty. Lieut. Mickelson and Lieut. Henkel will be appointed to provisional Captain status and Firefighter 1st Class See and Firefighter 1st Class Barnes will be appointed to provisional Lieutenant status. Page 2 - Civil Service Commission Minutes, January 26, 1978 A memorandum from Chief Skewes to Officer Goodchild was received and accepted by the Commission concerning suspension without pay for one day for unauthorized absence. A letter was received from Paul Elmer Ray protesting the manual dexterity portion of the Physical Agility test for Firefighter given on January 4, 1978. After discussion with Chief Foster on the procedures of the manual dexterity, the Commission moved and seconded to deny the protest. Motion carried. A letter was received from San Jose State University requesting information regarding current personnel positions with our agency. Secretary was instructed to provide the information requested. A letter was received from Wollack & Associates, Greenwood, California, regarding Washington State Firefighter Examination Validation Project to be initiated by the firm. Secretary was instructed to keep the letter on file. Lieutenant Boudreau reported that Sgt. Gary Wiles is on disability leave and should know by February 1st if the disability is permanent. Commission Chairman Ken Yahn has resigned effective today as his residence is now in Auburn. Meeting adjourned. Secretary and Chief Examiner Approved: Acting Chain
