The regular meeting of the Civil Service Commission was called to order
by Commissioner Norwood Cunningham at the fire station. Present were
Ken Yahn, Norwood Cunningham, Chief Skewes and Deputy Chief Freelove.
The minutes of the August 25th meeting were approved.
A motion was made and seconded to adopt the amended Rule VI, Section8,
of the Civil Service Rules and Regulations. Required number of copies are
to be distributed to the respective members and departments.
Chief Skewes reported that the Police Department is presently out of eligible
listings for police officers. A motion was made and seconded to have the
Secretary and Chief Skewes work together on the written examination to be
presented for approval at the next meeting.
Deputy Chief Freelove submitted a copy of Certificate of Merit from L.H.
Bates Vocational Technical Institute of Tacoma certifying Michael C. Evans
had satisfactorily completed 1,266 hours of instruction in fire service train-
ing. A motion was made and seconded to accept the certification and to
credit Fireman Evans for five-and-a-half (5 1/2) months, qualification for
Firefighter 1st Class.
As the Fire Department Eligibility List will expire in December, 1977,
Deputy Chief Freelove requested an examination for Firefighters for
December. A motion was made and seconded to have the Secretary and
the Fire Department proceed in preparation of an exam and present it at
the October 20 meeting.
Correspondence: Safety Policy, #G-1, from Joseph A. Street, City Admini-
strator, regarding policy/procedure.
A motion was made and seconded to approve the General Information Letter
for Applicants which accompanies each application form.
The next meeting will be October 20, 1977 at Station 1.
