July 22, 1976
The regular meeting of the Civil Service Commission was held on
— July 22, 1976. Present were Hal Cline, Norwood Cunningham, Ken
Yahns Chief Mcquery and Chief Foster.
The minutes of the previous meeting were approved.
A copy of a letter from Lt. Bean requesting a four month leave of
absence without pay, and a copy of a letter from Chief Mcquery
approving the request were received by the Commission.
A discussion was held in reference to the proper procedure for
filling a vacancy in the position of police lieutenant.
A motion was made and seconded to authorize the secretary and chief
examiner to start the procedure for an examination for Probationary
Law Enforcement Officer. Motion carried. The closing date for
applications was set as 5 P.M. on August 20, 1976. The written
examination will be held approximately the week of Sept. 13.
A motion was made and seconded to approve the testing procedure
as follows:
hl eligible candidates will be notified toj.take a written
objective test, which will count as 25% of the total score. The
top 40 scorers will proceed to the physical agility. In case
of a tie, all persons scoring the lowest score of the 40 will proceed.
Those passing the physical agility on a pass/fail basis will
be eligible for the Oral Interview, which will count as 50% of
the total score. Those candidates who receive a score of 70%
or better on the Oral Interview will proceed with the examination.
Each of those passing the Oral Interview shall submit a resume
and complete a written essay examination as administered by the
commission. This shall count 25% of the total score. l
Motion carried.
The commission will review questions for the written examination
by the end of August.
The next meeting will be Thursday, August 26, at 8 A.M. in the
Fire Station.
