HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Committees - Civil Services Commission - 06/10/1976 CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION MINUTES - June 10, 1976 The regular meeting of the Civil Service Commission was held on June 10, 1976. Present were Hal Cline, Ken Yahn and Norwood Cunningham. There were approximately 35 people in attendance. The minutes of the meetings held on April 21 and May 18 were approved by motion. The secretary summarized the request from Chief McQuery concerning additional leave of absence without pay for Police Clerk Joyce Blakley. A motion was made and seconded that the Civil Service Commission authorize Chief McQuery to grant an additional two months leave of absence without pay beyond the four months allowed in the rules and regulations to Police Clerk Joyce Blakley._ Motion carried. A motion was made and seconded that the minutes reflect the receipt of a letter from Chief McQuery dated June 4, 1976, advising the Commission of a personnel matter. Motion carried. The secretary and chief examiner read her letter to the commission certifying the eligible list for the position of chief of police as follows: 1. Jay B. Skewes 2. Tony Stoutt 3. Lawrence Loveless A motion was made and seconded that the commission accept the certified eligible list for the position of chief of police as submitted and certified by the secretary and chief examiner. Motion carried unanimously. A motion was made and seconded that the name of Jay B. Skewes, the top scoring candidate and #1 on the eligible list be certi- fied by the commission for the position of chief of police. Motion carried unanimously. A motion was made and seconded that the seven remaining finalists, whose names to not appear on the present eligible list for the position of chief of police, be considered as vl)lid candidates for the position in the order of their ranking and that the commission reserve the right to add one or more of these names to the eligible list, if it should become necessary, prior to February 1, 1977.
