The regular meeting of the Civil Service Commission was
held on Jan. 10. Present were barren Bell , Hal Cline ,
Ken Yahn, Chief McQuery and Chief Foster.
The minutes of the previous meeting were approved.
A motion was made and seconded to elect Warren Bell as
the Chairman of the commission. Motion carried.
A,-letter was read from Chief McQuery stating that he was
reorganizing the clerical staff of the police department
and that this required that Clerk Dorothy Dorman be layed
off as she has the least seniority under civil service.
A letter was read from the � Secretary and Chief Examiner
stating that she found that the lay-off was made in good
faith and that Mrs . Dorman was the last clerk hired in
the classified service and therefore had the least seniority.
A motion was made and seconded to set the date and time for
the public hearing for Mrs. Dorman' s appeal for January
17, 1975 at 8 A.M. in the Council Chambers of the Kent
City Hall . Motion carried.
The secretary was directed to request that City Attorney
Don Mirk be present ,at the hearing.
A letter was read from Chief McQuery stating that he had
discharged Officer Randee Kerns effective January 12, 1975•
A letter was read from the Secretary and Chief Examiner
stating that she found that the discharge was for cause
and not for political reasons.
The Rules were discussed but no action taken.
The secretary was asked to send copies of the minutes to
the members of the commission as soon as possible after
each meeting.
The next meeting was scheduled for Jan. 21 at 7 P.M.
At that time the commission will set a regular schedule
for the meetings.
