The regular meeting was heldon May 30 instead of May 23rd since
a quorum was not available on May 23rd. Present were Don Bell ,
Warren Bell , Hal Cline, Chief Mc@uery, Chief Foster and Sgt .
Boudreau.
The minutes of the previous meeting were corrected to read
that Dale Freelove was confirmed to the position of DEPUTY Chief
of the Fire Department . Minutes approved.
A letter was read from John and Hilder Mullen complimenting the
commission on the job they perform.
Chief Foster and Chief Mcgluery presented the revisions they
propose for the Rules and Regulations . A motion was made and
seconded to amend Rule IX, Section 7, Assistant Chief to read
as follows ;
1 . Must have served a minimum of two (2 ) years at the rank
of lieutenant or above in the Kent Fire Department .
2. Must have a passing grade on an examination prepared and
supervised by the Civil Service Commission.
3. Applicant ' s service record maye,be considered and weight
given to final examination grade.
Motion carried.
A letter was read from Sgt . Robert Boudreau, president of the
Kent Police Officers Guild, asking that the Guild be allowed to
provide input to the commission concerning the update of the
Rules and Regulations. The commission will welcome any input
that the members of the Guild feel will help in the revision.
Chief McQuery asked that the commission make a ruling on who
is able to inspect the personal files kept in his office on the
members of the department. After discussion, the commission
declined to answer that question at this time.
A letter was read from Chief Mc�Zuery stating that Officer Donald
K. Fadden, Jr. has been suspended without pay for a period of
one (1 ) day to take effect on the 23rd of May.
A motion was made and seconded to set the age qualifications
for entrance firefighter at 18 to 33 years at time of closing
date of applications. Motion carried. A motion was made and
seconded to set the weights for the entrance firefighter examina-
tion at Written- 50% and Oral- 50%. The physical agility will
be on a pass/fail basis. Motion carried. Entrance firefighter
exams will be held during the second week of July if the Kent
Junior High Cafeteria is available. Closing date for applications
will be June 21st. The promotional exam for Fire Assistant Chief
will be held on July 15th and: for Fire Lieutenant on July 17th.
