The regular meeting of the Kent Civil Service Commission
was held on April 25. Present were Don Bell , Warren Bell ,
Hal Cline, Chief McQuery and Chief Foster.
The minutes of the previous meeting were approved.
A motion was made and seconded to approve the Eligibility
List for Law Enforcement Officer from the examination held
on April 8, 13, and 16, 1974.

Motion carried.
A motion was made and seconded that the commission will
no longer require a minimum height for applicants for a
position under Civil Service. Motion carried.
A motion was madeD conded to confirm Dale Freelove to
the position of �t Chief of the Fire Department due
to the merger of the city department and Fire District IA37.
Motion carried.
A motion was made and seconded to amend RULE IX, Qualifi-
cations for Fire Ranks, to include a new Section 6. 01 ,
Deputy Chief as follows :
"Deputy Chief" :
1 . Must have served a minimum of two (2 ) years at the
rank of captain or above , in the Kent Fire Department.
2. Must have a passing grade on an examination prepared
and supervised by the Civil Service Commission.
3. Applicant' s service record will be considered and
weight given to final examination grade.
Motion carried.
Chief McQuery and Chief Foster were directed by the commission
to have their proposed changes in the Rules and Regulations
to the commission by the regular meeting in May. The
secretary was directed to have a rough draft of the proposed
Rules to the commission by the regular meeting in June.
The commission decided that 20 6,opies of the new Rules
would be needed : 6 each for the police and fire departments ,
1 each for the commissioners, 1 for the secretary and chief
examiner and 4 for the city administration.
A motion was made and seconded to direct the secretary to
purchase some type of loose leaf binders for the Rules.
Motion carried.

The secretary was directed to provide a copy of the approved
mmates to each department for posting on a bulletin board.
