HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Committees - Civil Services Commission - 03/28/1974 March 28, 1974 The regular meeting of the Civil Service Commission was held on March 28. Present were Don Bell , Warren Bell , Hal Cline and Chief McQuery. The minutes of the previous regular meeting and the special meeting were approved. A motion was made and seconded to amend Rule XIII to read ds'.follows : Section 1A . "Probationary Patrolman" (1 ) Posse$ requirements .as established by civil service commission as sbt out in application for examination. (2) Pass required entrance examination Section 1B. "Patrolman "C" Grade• (1 ) Must have successfully passed the probationary period. Section 2. "Patrolman "B" Grade" Must have served satisfactorily with the Kent Police Department for a period of two (2 ) years , including the probationary period, and must have a passing grade on an examination prepared and supervised by the Civil Service Commission or their designee within the Kent Police Department above the rank of Sergeant. or Must have served two (2) years as a full time, commissioned peace officer with a municipal , county or state law enforcement agency and provide conclusive proof of such service with a satisfac- tory record, in addition to one year' s satisfac- tory service including the probationary period, with the Kent Police Department ; and must pass the 'W Grade examination at the end of the one years service. '< or Must have completed two (2) years of Police Science in college and completed at least one year of satisfactory service with the Kent Police Depart- ment and must pass the "B" Grade examination. In no event will an officer be up-graded to "B" Grade Patrolman until he has served a full year of satisfactory service including the probationary period, with the Kent Police Department. I . March 28, 1974 Motion carried. The Chief Examiner reported that there were 178 apblicants for the Patrolman examination scheduled for April 7. A motion was made and seconded to approve allowing the Chief Examiner to have the answer sheets scored by computer at the Univdrsity of Washington. Motion carried. A motion was made and seconded to approve,las passing the written examination, the top 20p of the scores of those present . Motion carried. The physical agility test will be held on April 13 at the Kent Elementary Gym and passing will be a score of 60. This is a pass/fail score and will not be used in the final scoring.
