Chair Zoratkiewicz called the meeting to order at 5:22 p.m.
I. COMMISSION BUSINESS:
II. HEARING:
1. The Appeal of Justin Poe was continued until the August 22nd Civil
Service Meeting per request of his Attorneys.
III. OLD BUSINESS:
• A. Accept Into Record
1. Chair Zaratkiewicz moved to approve the minutes from the June 27, 2001
Civil Service Meeting.
IV. NEW BUSINESS:
A. Accept into Record
Chair Zaratkiewicz asked those present to review items one through two.
1. Memo dated June 22, 2001 from Lieutenant Cline informing the
Commission that Sergeant Gurr is on Maternity leave effective June 22"d
and that Officer Burwell has been assigned as Provisional Sergeant in her
place effective June 23nd.
2. Letter dated July 19, 2001 from Chief Examiner Guiguet to Entry Level
Police Officer Candidate David McPhee advising him of:'his removal from
the Entry Level Police Officers Eligibility List.

There being no discussion, Chair Zaratkiewicz moved to accept items one and
two into record. Seconded and carried.
B. Action Items for Discussion
1. Chair Zaratkiewicz opened for discussion the memo received July 4, 2001
from Chief Angelo requesting an extended leave of absence for
Lieutenant Kraig Peiguss regarding the possibility of an extended leave
of absence as an option if he were to take a position with the South King
County Medics. The request is that he be granted up to a six-year leave
of absence with Lt. Peiguss confirming the need for the remainder of the
leave after the end of the 4th and the 5th year.
After much discussion Chair Zaratkiewicz granted a Leave of absence of
2 years. One month before the end of the two years the Fire
Department must apply and ask for an additional two years extension to
the Leave of Absence. Seconded and carried.
• Chair Zaratkiewicz asked if there was any additional business to be discussed.
Employment Manager, Jed Aldridge updated the Commission on the Chief Civil
Service Examiners Process:
Orientation: Monday, July 30rh at 1:30 p.m.
Computer/Typing Exam: Monday, August 61h and, I if necessary,
Tuesday, August 7'h. Those who have already passed the Civil Service typing speed
of 55 words per minute will be required to take the computer portion only.
Oral Board Interview: Wednesday, August 81h. This will be a structured
interview.
Final Interview: Tuesday, August 14'h with Chair Callius Zaratkiewitz
and Mr. Jed Aldridge the City of Kent Employment Manager.
It is anticipated that the final job offer will be made in a timely manner with an
anticipated start date of Tuesday, September 4, 2001.

The Commission then gave the outgoing Civil Service Chief Examiner Guiguet a
surprise send off with their thanks for a job well done.
Chair Zaratkiewicz then made a motion to adjourn. Seconded and carried. The
meeting was adjourned at 5:37 p.m.
The next regular Civil Service Meeting will be held at 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday,
August 22, 2001.
