MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING
By And Between The
CITY OF KENT
and
KENTPOLICE OFFICERS ASSOCIATION
Representing the
POLICE SERGEANTS AND OFFICERS
and
POLICE ASSISTANT CHIEFS AND COMMANDERS
Regarding
Court Security Officer position(s)
This Memorandum of Understanding ("MOU") is entered into by and bet,,veen the City of Kent
("the City") and the Kent Police Officers Association (-KPOA"), representing the Police
Sergeants and Officers' bargaining Unit and the Police Assistant Chiefs and Commanders'
bargaining unit, regarding the Court Security Officer position(s) assigned to the Kent Municipal
Court.
The City and KPOA agree that some of the job duties performed by the "Court Security Officer
position(s)" in the Kent Municipal Court are now recognized as KP,OA bargaining unit work.
The City and the KPOA, however, have mutually agreed that the Court Security Officer
position(s) may, for now, perform these job duties as a non-represented position.
KPOA shall have the right to terminate this MOU at ar y time. Upon receiving the foregoing
termination notice from KPOA, the City shall bargain with the KPOA within 30 days, the
removal of the job duties that are recognized as KPOA bargaining unit work duties.
The Court Security Officer position(s) will fall under the direction of the Chief of Police or
desi&giee, and is considered to be a position within the Kent Police Department.
This MOU shall not be construed in any way as precedent setting or as a waiver of the City's or
KPOA's rights under the Subject collective bargaining agreements or otherwise.
This MOU was prepared and/or reviewed by both parties. In the event of an ambiguity in any
term of this MOU, it shall be interpreted evenly, and not against the drafter of the MOU.
By signing below, the parties agree that the above represents the parties' full and entire
agreement with respect to the subject matter of this MOU.
This MOU shall be deemed executed and effective as, of this day ofA4-arch 201.8.
