For over 10 years the Kent Chamber of Commerce has not increased the grant request and instead have absorbed increases into our general operating budget. However, with the rising cost in staffing, inquires, facility and supplies we have increased the grant ask by 26%. Also, with the great recession coming to an end and the interest in Kent increasing due to marketing efforts the level of interest and therefore staffing demand has increased over the years. Amended Statement: Furthermore, with the great work that Jayray and the ShoWare Center is doing to attract, stimulate and develop growth in tourism and the boom in the Kent economy with the opening of the Amazon fulfillment center the Kent Chamber of Commerce has seen a substantial increase in inquiries regarding the City of Kent. The increase in inquires include short term visits, employment and relocation. It is our goal to serve as an open gathering place for information for those interested in the vast opportunities in Kent. Scope of Work The Kent Chamber of Commerce provides services that seek to increase occupancy at City lodging facilities and promote the City as a site for corporate meetings and events and promote City tourism opportunities. We are working to grow this presence and expand on visitor related information as we continue to build and improve the website. • We will continue to work with the entities involved with the branding and visitor campaign for the City of Kent. Total Cost of Scope of Work for 2018 =$25,000.00 We understand the desire to track total leads_ and room nights booked into our local hotels with regards to metrics for the lodging tourism tax dollars being spent on this or any grant. However, like those who are also awarded dollars from this funding source we do not have a way to track those specific nights unless the visitors calls the hotel directly and specifically say they were recommended by the Chamber of Commerce. In our consumer driven economy people shop sites such as Expedia, Priceline, Kayak ect. booking through these agents for the best possible deals. There is no way to track if a visitor we talked to, visited our website or corresponded with via mail or email when they don't book directly with the hotel and verbally tell the individual hotel about the recommendation. New collaboration to build up Kent's brand for positive recognition in our region. In discussion with City of Kent Economic Development and the Kent Chamber of Commerce we have brainstormed a real need for regional, state and national recognition of the innovative things the Kent is already doing. Working together we plan to promote and draw positive attention to our community highlighting why Kent is a place to visit, live, work and relocate a business in. Drawing extra attention to the programs already happening in Kent such as the International Festival and Technology Expo will highlight the strong community engagement and innovative spirit that our community enjoys. Furthermore, highlighting the innovative businesses already choosing to locate in Kent will showcase the strong economy and entrepreneurial spirit that Kent embodies both promoting our City but also causing businesses looking to relocate to choose Kent. Creating and/or identifying regional, state and national opportunities to highlight Kent in positive ways will be instrumental in economic and community growth. To do this in 2018 we will need to build a foundation to gain that spotlight in the media and to seek out additional awards and recognition. In brainstorming with staff in Economic Development we propose to collaborate together to form a think tank/stakeholder group on how to approach and create the ability for positive recognition in our region. With the goal of supporting and developing programs and best practices we propose the following schedule of goals for this new group: I"and 2nd Quarter • Work in collaboration (City of Kent Economic Development & Kent Chamber of Commerce) to identify and solicit key stakeholders to engage and flush out mission of our think tank. • Create the mission of the think tank around the premise of engaging in opportunities to promote Kent in a larger playing field. • Look for ways to build our presence and be more visible in our region. Kent has amazing and innovative programs that we need to highlight and take credit for. Make sure not only our community but the region and state know the positive environment in Kent. • Brainstorm and build on how to promote our City of Kent"Brand"within the region and state. • Identify key opportunities for regional awards and recognition for programs already in place. 3rd and 4`"Quarter • Continue and build on work started in first and second quarter. • Find and submit for opportunities for recognition at the regional and state level. • Build on the opportunities identified for deeper engagement and recognition of programs. • Highlight the some of the many innovative business that are located in Kent. • Highlight any awards that have been awarded throughout the year — many businesses, residents and community groups win awards throughout the year—create a platform to share their success. • Look to host a community reception—identifying key stakeholders to help co-host in collaboration to celebrating and highlighting wins in our community. The think tank will brainstorm on how best to do a community "wins" reception perhaps making an annual celebration of Kent highlighting the year's award winners. The $25,000.00 will be paid to the Kent Chamber of Commerce quarterly in 2018 in the amounts of $6,252.00 per quarter. l't Quarter(January 1, 2018—March 31, 2018) =$6252.00 2°a Quarter(April 1, 2018—June 30, 2018) =$6252.00 3rd Quarter(July 1, 2018—September 30, 2018) _$6252.00 41h Quarter(October 1, 2018—December 31, 2018) _ $6252.00 Best Regards, Andrea Keikkala Chief Executive Officer Kent Chamber of Commerce (253) 854-1770 Ext, 140 Attached—Measurable Performance pages 1-3 Measurable Performance Information requested per month taken by the front desk.
