Lastly, this price is not for fixing the problem of the z pile clearance Issues,it is strictly a price to increase the Cap beam width on both reaches by 5". This change order pricing was created by taking our total cost per cubic yard$352,255.58 and dividing the total of each cost type into the additional cubic yards requested.A more detailed proposal was avoided due to the time restraints and the Impact this delay could have on the project. As noted in the description, if the shoring formwork is not adequate to incorporate the change, this pricing is void and Tapani will issue a new proposal. As of now, this sounds like a small possibility, Please call with any questions. See the attached sketch. Note the driving placement tolerances in the contract shall remain unchanged. The Engineer shall be contacted when there are extreme pile location deviations that cannot provide the minimum cover requirements and be captured inside this modified cap width Forming of the cap and barrier shall match the horizontal geometry in the plans. Any modifications shall be approved by the Engineer and provide the best fit to the as-installed pile line with adjustments for the minimum clearances shown on the revised sketch. The final appearance shall provide controlled large radius sweep lines with no angle points or reverse curves for a clean smooth appearance. The modified width cap beam shall be used on all sections of the project in Reach 2 and Reach 3. All other details in regards to the barrier, architectural reveal, surface treatment and handrail are to remain unchanged. Note this modified cap does not include a remedy to cover the pile lifting holes, pending a proposal from Tapani Changes to the cap beam at the ramp are currently being evaluated and will be forth coming. I Subject: Project Delays Dear Mr. Bryant, Per specification section 1-08.6 Tapani is required to submit a written notice of any delays within 10 calendar days. Tapani wishes to make sure with this letter, that everyone is made aware of the cost and delays that are coming from these late changes to the cap beam being unsettled, a result of the z pile installers hitting obstructions. The original schedule had Tapani's welders and laborers starting onsite 6/12/14 to start welding and installing bridge brackets for the cap beam shoring. This schedule also had the concrete crew starting on 6/16/14 installing rebar and edge form. During a site visit on 6/10/14 Tapanis concrete crew noticed that some of the z pile was driven to far from design for the original cap beam design to work. On 6/12/14 during the onsite meeting it was discussed with the project Engineers and a method of widening the cap beam to Y was decided on as the method to fix the issues and Tapani was directed to put together pricing. At this time the rebar supply was shut down, and the custom snap ties with a 1 week lead time production was shut down. On 6/17/14 Tapani was made aware from the field foreman that the cap beam was going back to the original design and z pile would be corrected. At this time Tapani does not have a lead time on getting rebar production started and shipped to project. The snap ties for the forming of the cap beam are a week out. This is a total of 9 days lost, if the rebar can be fabricated and delivered within a week. The cost's will be in the Engineering of the shoring to make sure it would accommodate the extra width of cap beam, cost of the rebar supply production being shut down and started up again, and possible loss of days to Tapani and loss in production. There is no estimate for these cost and will be submitted as made available. At time of this letter completion we again received notice from the field that the cap beam will be going back to the Y wide design. Tapani will put full effort into keeping this issue as small as possible. Also, Tapani Inc. feels that Jason Bryant has put full effort into resolving this issue and is greatly appreciated while reducing the cost tremendously. Regards, Tyler Miller Tapani, Inc. Does it refer to the sheets already in the ground? Is the proposal to actually pull the sheets out of the ground 1.5 inches?Or lower the cap beam by 1.5 inches? If the latter, it would lower the top of the flood wall by 1.5 inches. From: Langholz, Ken [mailto:KLangholz@kentwa.gov] Sent: Thursday, June 12, 2014 5:39 PM To: Nickerson, Jim Cc: David Shearer (david@shearerdesign.net); Miyamoto, Cory; Bryant,Jason; Walton, Randy; Howlett, Mark; Bieren, Chad; Pujol, Alberto Subject: Concrete cap beam revision .Jim, As you are aware, there are some sheet piles that are a few inches out of alignment on Reach 2. We had the piles surveyed this afternoon and should have the information plotted tomorrow morning. On site, we stretched a line across the worst area which was from approx. sheet no, 68 to 88. Some piles were 5" riverward of the line, a couple were 3" landward and two were more than 6" landward of the line. Tapani will attempt to straighten the 2 pair of piles that are more than 6" out of alignment because they would cause the overhang to be over a foot in adjacent piles. After much discussion, it was determined that the best solution would be to go back to the T-0" wide cap beam. If we allow a minimum of 4" and a maximum of 10" overhang on the landward side it would keep the cap beam and barrier in alignment with no reverse curves. The desired overhang would still be 6.5" as currently shown on sheet S1 and would be the dimension used for staking. This wider cap beam will allow for the deviations in the wall location that we're experiencing on this project, We've also received a request from Tapani to raise the sheets by 1.5" so that the holes will be covered by the 18" deep cap beam. That would change the 9" dimension from the top of pile to top of cap beam to 7.5". In discussions that we had previously, there was concern that the lower cover would cause reflective cracking, Please take a look at this. I am requesting you to revise the details on sheet 51 as noted above. Also, incorporate the Revision 1 dimensions to the extent possible. The asphalt trail dimension shown on sheet 2 will change to 12'-0" so there will be no noticeable change in the grading plans. Please call or email if you have any questions.
