The purpose of WA-VDR$and NVDRS Is to produce information that helps public health and law enforcement officials understand the extent,cause and circumstances of violent deaths. This information will be used.to develop,target and evaluate vlplence prevention strategies. WA-VDRS collects information on violent deaths from three primary sources: death certificates,medical examiner/coroner(ME/C)records,and law enforcement reports. _ The Washington State Legislature recognizes that violence In Put society causes great concern for the immediate health and safety of ourcitizens and oursociai institutions, They find that a public health and public safety approach can be effective In addressing the problem of violence and authorize the department In 43N,545 RCW to collect and report data relating to acts of violence that result In homicide and suicide, This MOU can be reviewed with thirty(30)days'notice by either party to assess processes and needed changes between the collaborating agencies, A. Provide information pertaining to the above described closed case reports In any of the following manner(at the agency's discretion on a case by case basis) on a quarterly(every three months)basis or before: a. Elocteonlcformat b. Paper-based format c. Completed WA-Violent Death Reporting System:Law Enforcement Flllable Data Form. Dbhl Contract NNE I<;1 i MOU:WA Department of Health and Law Enforcement Agency For those case reports the agency elects to submit electronically,the records will be transmitted through a secure,FTP site n)*tainad by the department, Forthose case reports the agency alerts to submit using paper-based records,the records will be abstracted directly by WA-VDRS abstractors or submitted by the agency though a secure scanned file transfer program into the department's confidential secure file folder. For those case reports the agency elects to submit using a flllabie data form,the forms shall be transmitted through a secure FTP site malmalned by the department. D. The Washington State Department of Health agrees to; 1, Abide by all applicable state laws and regulations pertalning to protection of confidential Information,Data transmitted to the NVDRS will be stripped of IdonW ers prior to transfer. 2. At least annually,disseminate WA-DVRS data reports,fact sheets and.publkations to data, i suppliers,the&Iblic and orgahizattons Working to prevent violence, This MOU Is contingent on the receipt of funding from the CDC Cooperative Agreement for the National Violent Death Reporting System.
