Proposal for Landscape Architectural Services-Kent Valley Loop Trail(KVLT)Sign Master
Plan
Dear Hope:
We are excited to learn the City of Kent would like to move forward with a sign plan for
the KVLT.This letter outlines our approach to the project and specific services we will
provide beginning with a project description.
Project Description
The project will develop ideas and content for signs to be implemented along the loop
trails proposed by the KVLT plan. Signs may vary but are within the categories of
wayfinding, interpretive, safety, and distance. The locations for signs, fabrication and
construction details will also be given consideration. There are existing trail signs so we
will work the city and King County to develop sign standards for the various types of
signs that work with the existing signs.
The intent of this work is to create a simple and consistent strategy to identify the loop
trails, provide wayfinding, and improve safety. The conceptual idea for the sign
graphics is contained within the KVLT Master Plan. The strategy is to use simple
graphics, colors, and messages. Fabrication and installation strategies will be
influenced by processes the city already has in place.
Design
• Review existing signs, sign plans, and standards, as they are available.
• Identify the different types of signs and the message carried by each. These
include wayfinding, safety, distance, and interpretive.
• Prepare conceptual ideas for the appearance and content of the signs. j
• Develop a palette of materials including sign blade, colors, graphics, and mounting
options.
• Research sign fabrication options.
• Attend (3) meetings to present and discuss options and obtain design direction.
