King County is adopting new zoning to accomplish two purposes, to implement the County's new comprehensive plan, and to convert current zoning classifications to the zoning classifications used in the County's new zoning code The state Growth Management Act (GMA) requires King County to adopt a new comprehensive plan Zoning throughout King County must be consistent with this new comprehensive plan The zoning on some parcels in unincorporated King County will need to be changed in order to be consistent with the new comprehensive plan The GMA requires King County to designate an urban growth area in its comprehensive plan, within which urban growth will be encouraged and outside of which urban growth will be prohibited Any adopted zoning must be consistent with this urban growth area designation King County is also implementing a newly adopted zoning code called Title 21A Title 21A uses different zoning classifications than those currently used in King County Therefore, the zoning classifications applicable to all parcels throughout unincorporated King County must be converted to new zoning classifications to implement Title 21A. What this means to you: The proposed zoning change to your property does not substantially change your permitted density or uses.
