MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING
By and between the
CITY OF KENT
And
TEAMSTERS LOCAL UNION No. 117
Affiliated with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters
Re: Uniform Exchange Program for Public Works Employees
The purpose of this Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) is to memorialize an agreement
between the City of Kent ('City") and Teamsters Local Union No. 117 ("Union").
The parties have met and discussed providing Public Works Operations employees the
opportunity to participate in a voluntary Uniform Exchange Program similar to the program
provided in the Parks Maintenance Division.
Currently the collective bargaining agreement (CBA), Section 28.1, Uniform Allowance,
provides that regular employees be supplied with 11 pairs of pants and 11 shirts The
voluntary Uniform Exchange Program would allow employees to exchange five shirts and
five pairs of pants, for one pull-over hooded sweat-shirt and any combination of T-shirts
and Tech shirts, not to exceed a total of four. Employees may purchase additional sweat-
shirts, T-shirts or Tech shirts at their own expense.
The city shall coordinate the purchase of the sweat-shirts, T-shirts, and Tech shirts and
ensure that they have the city logo and are consistent in color and quality to those
provided to Parks Maintenance employees.
The parties agree that it shall be the employee's responsibility to launder the sweat shirts,
T-shirts and Tech shirts at their own expense.
Employees wishing to participate in the voluntary Uniform Exchange Program are required
to notify their Superintendent, in writing, of their intent to participate in the program no
later than May 31, 2011. Employees that do not give written notice of their intent to
participate in the program by May 31, 2011 will forfeit their right to participate in the
program for the remainder of the current year. Once an employee has agreed to
participate in the program, and the uniform exchange has taken place, they may not
revoke their participation.
Any dispute as to the implementation of this MOU shall be handled in accordance with the
parties' CBA grievance and arbitration procedure.
By signature below, the parties agree that the above represents the parties' full and entire W
agreement with regard to this matter.
Signed this y of April, 2011.
