i Memorandum of Understanding
by and between
The City of Kent (City)
and
Washington State Council of County and City
Employees, AFSCME, AFL-CIO, Local #2617 (Union)
This memorandum of understanding is agreed to and designated as such by
signature below as a compromise on a particular and singular issue that has arisen
regarding Multimedia staffing. There is currently only one lead position in Multimedia
and the City is considering creating two separate classifications (one for Graphics and
one for the Print Shop). The parties have agreed to the following
• The individual provided with the lead responsibilities in the Print Shop will be
eligible for retroactive pay to May 23`d upon completion of a reclassification that
would create the new Print Shop Lead position.
• Dea Drake (Manager) shall be performing some bargaining unit responsibilities
on a limited basis in an effort to assess organizational needs and structure for the
• Graphics Lead position
• The Union's concerns of using the reclassification process to create positions for
individuals will be addressed in the upcoming contract negotiations.
• This unique circumstance shall not create any precedent for Managers doing
bargaining unit work, for reclassification processes, hiring process or any other
matter.
