Location Address Dear Rob,
Suite 200
400 West Gowe This letter follows our conversation on September 23, 2002 regarding the use
Kent,Washington
of a temporary employee, Julianna Jones, in the Planning Division As I
Phone 253-856-5270 explained during the meeting, I recognize that I was in error in authorizing the
Fax.253-856-6270 same temporary employee to work more than five months even though the
Jobhne 253-856-6272
work was for another division. Specifically, that this is a violation of Section
1.3 (A)—Temporary Employees.
I understand from our phone conversation that the Union is willing to allow
Julianna to finish her twelve-week term in exchange for the City's willingness
to admit it was in error and for the City's willingness to offer the overtime
opportunity to the work group. The department will, if it hasn't already, offer
overtime to office staff members and the overtime hours take precedence over
the temporary employee hours As I explained on the phone this was clearly
my error in interpreting the contract. I truly do appreciate the Union's
willingness to work to find resolution on this matter. I am hopeful that we will
find a resolution on the use of temporary employees during these difficult
economic times.
This letter serves to finalize the Planning Division grievance regarding the use
_ of a temporary employee. Julianna Jones The terms of this grievance
resolution shall not be precedent setting. Please sign below to acknowledge
your concurrence.
Sincerely,
Sue Viseth
