Viseth Department: ES Detail: (i.e. address, location, parcel number, tax id, etc.): S•Publlc\RecordsManagement\Forms\ContractCover\adcc7832 1 11/08 MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING BY AND BETWEEN THE CITY OF KENT AND AFSCME LOCAL 21-K This Memorandum of Understanding is intended to clarify the language in Article 1, Section 1 3, TemporM Employees in the 1995-97 collective bargaining Agreement The City and the Union have met to discuss this issue and have agreed to use this Memorandum of Understanding to clarify the intent of the language in the collective bargaining Agreement The parties agree on the following - The use of temporary employees is appropriate for defined short-term, intermittent, or seasonal work - Temporary employees shall be classified into one of two categories: Five (5) month temporaries are defined as employees who may work up to forty(40) hours a week for a period not to exceed five (5) consecutive months in a calendar year (January -December) A minimum of four(4) months break in service shall occur after any five (5) consecutive month period 520 hour temporaries are defined as employees who work less than 520 hours in a calendar year (January -December) and are typically described as on-call, intermittent, or who may be routinely scheduled for only a few hours each week -Departments may hire multiple temporary employees as defined above but shall not combine or overlap temporaries in such a way as to create the equivalent of a regular position or to avoid the time constraints set herein This Agreement is intended to represent the parties understanding and agreement of temporary employees This Memorandum of Understanding shall serve as a guide in the application of the above referenced Article of the 1995-97 collective bargaining Agreement and shall in no way modify, supersede or replace said language Signed this Z 6 i k day of June, 1996 For the Union For the City: Z
