BY AND BETWEEN
THE CITY OF KENT (CITY)
AND
WASHINGTON STATE COUNCIL OF COUNTY AND CITY EMPLOYEES,
AFSCME, AFL-CIO, LOCAL #2617 (UNION)
This Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) represents the parties' agreement to provide a non-
precedence setting benefit to members of the Bargaining Unit who work in a PERS eligible
position but are not eligible to participate in the Washington State, Public Employee Retirement
System plans (PERS). The parties have agreed to the following:
• Members who work in a PERS eligible position but are not eligible to participate in a
PERS plan will receive the equivalent to, the employer's contribution portion of the
PERS II plan cost per member.
• The eligibility date shall be the aforementioned member's hire date.
• The money received from this contribution shall only be eligible to be placed into the
deferred compensation account of the members choice.
• Employee(s) referenced in the first bullet must have enrolled in and filled out the
appropriate documentation to receive the aforementioned contribution.
• If the amount equivalent of the employer's portion of the plan cost is below the
minimum amount required by the deferred compensation program, the City shall not
contribute that pay cycle.
• If the Citydiscontinues - -ues providing non represented, non PERS eligible employee(s)
with this benefit, the City shall cancel this benefit with the bargaining unit
employee(s).
The above represents the parties'full agreement with regard to this, and shall not be
precedence setting for future similar or dissimilar situations.
