Kent City Council Special Meeting
February 11, 2014
The regular meeting of the Kent City Council was called to order at 6:01 p.m. by
Mayor Cooke.
Councilmembers present: Berrios, Boyce, Higgins, Ralph, Ranniger, and Thomas.
OPENING REMARKS
Mayor Cooke noted that the 38 applications will be reviewed in executive session and
the finalists chosen will be interviewed by the Council on February 25, 2014.
Council President Ralph discussed the application process and how the meeting would
proceed.
EXECUTIVE SESSION
At 6:10 p.m., Mayor Cooke announced that the Council would recess into an
Executive Session for one hour to discuss the qualifications of a candidate for
appointment to elective office per RCW 42.30.110(1)(h).
At 7:12 p.m., the Executive Session concluded and Mayor Cooke reconvened
the regular meeting.
RECESS
At 7:13 p.m., Mayor Cooke called for a five minute recess.
At 7:18 p.m., Mayor Cooke reconvened the regular meeting.
ACTION AFTER EXECUTIVE SESSION
Councilmember Higgins commented that the process of choosing from the list of well
qualified applicants was hard and that at least a dozen of the applicants are well
qualified. He encouraged those that weren't chosen to stay involved with City activities
and highlighted several ways to stay active in local government.
Council President Ralph thanked the applicants for applying and also encouraged the
applicants to stay involved in government.
Councilmember Thomas moved to advance the following candidates to an
interview to fill the vacant Council Position #6 on February 25, 2014, Jed
Aldridge, Christine Budell, Brenda Fincher, Barbara Phillips, Debra Raplee,
David Schwartz, and Sarah Veele, seconded by Councilmember Boyce. Motion
carried 6-0.
ADJOURNMENT
The meeting adjourned at 7:27 p.m.
