April 22, 1985
A special meeting of the Kent City Council was called to order at 7:00 p.m.
by Council President/Mayor Pro Tem Johnson. Proper legal notice of the meeting
has been given. Present: Councilmembers Bailey, Biteman, Johnson, Kelleher,
Leahy, White and Woods. Mayor Hogan was not in attendance. Also present:
City Administrator Cushing and City Attorney DiJulio.
DiJulio noted that the special Council meeting had been called for at the last
regular meeting of the Council on April 15 to consider the application of
Northwest Aluminum Products for Industrial Revenue Bond financing. He noted
that this was a $2,300,000 project to provide for the expansion of the Northwest
Aluminum Products facility. DiJulio further noted that the Economic Development
Corporation had met in special session prior to this meeting and approved the
bond issuance.
Bill Tonkin of Roberts & Shefelman, bond counsel for the Corporation and the
City, was then introduced to the meeting. As in the past, two resolutions
were prepared for adoption by the Council, one approving the project as the
planning jurisdiction and the other approving the bond issuance itself. WOODS
MOVED to adopt Resolution No. 1055 as the planning jurisdiction for the
Northwest Aluminum Products project. White seconded. Motion carried, with
Kelleher abstaining.
WOODS MOVED to adopt Resolution No. 1056, approving the action of the Kent
Economic Development Corporation for issuance of the bonds. White seconded.
Motion carried, with Kelleher abstaining.
DiJulio noted that there would be another special meeting of the Council on
April 29 at 7:00 o'clock p.m, to consider the application of Cascade Development
Company. Speaking on behalf of the applicants and the bond counsel, DiJulio
stated that the City of Kent's reputaticnis greatly enhanced by its willingness
to respond in taking quick action on these various applications. Tonkin also
stated that it was a privelege to work with the City.
There was no further business to come before the special meeting and WHITE
MOVED that the meeting be adjourned at 7:10 p.m. , Woods seconded. Motion
carried.
