March 8, 1971
Special meeting of the Kent City Council was called to order
at 7: 30 p.m. Present:. Mayor Hogan, Councilmen: Baffaro, Barnier,
Clements, Elliott, Lee, and Masters, City Administrator Street,
City Attorney Mirk, City Engineer Sherwood and Planning Director
Harris
It was noted that the purpose of this special Council meeting
was to consider bids for the radio communications system for
the new City Hall . Bids were received from Motorola Corporation
in the amount of $14, 086.80 , including tax and from Technical
Products Engineering in the amount of $9 , 271 .50 , including tax.
Mr. Street stated that Mr. Porter, Communications Specialist for
the King County Sheriff had checked the bids for the city, and
recommended that both be rejected, since the Motorola equipment
could be purchased at the state bid price of $12 , 082.14.' Tech-
nical Products Engineering's price for furnishing the same equip-
ment would be $12 , 000 and delivery of their equipment would take
90 days. He pointed out that the cost of installing the present
equipment in the new building would be more than the difference
between the two bids. In addition, Motorola has similar equip-
ment servicing the State Patrol, Seattle and King County, but
Technical Products Engineering ' s closest installation is Spokane.
Parts and service for Motorola equipment are more readily avail-
able.
BARNIER MOVED to reject all bids on the communications system
and for the equipment to be purchased under state contract 70-166 ,
without the restriction of special provision #10, Masters
seconded, motion carried unanimously.
MEETING ADJOURNED: 7 :50 p.m.
Respectfully submitted ,
