Regular meeting of the City Council present Mayor Thornton,
Councilman Bovell, Hartlaub, Mauritsen, Pozzi, Strain, and Woodworth.
Minutes of the last meeting approved as printed.
Mayor Thornton announced the North 1 of a certain Street was
to be vacated and for the City Engineer, Mr. Sherwood, to show
where the road is located on the map. This Street being j mile
North of"the Bowling Alley.
Mayor Thornton, declared the hearing open on the vacation of
the street and anyone desiring to be heard on the vacation of
the Street should speak now.
No one opposed the vacation of the North j of the said Street .
Mayor Thornton declared the hearing closed and asked for a reading
of the Ordinance for the vacation of the Street.
City Attorney, Mr. Thatcher replied that he did not have the
description in time for this ordinance and it w uld be prepared in
time for the next Council meeting.
Councilman Woodworth reported that he talked to the City
Manager, Evan Peterson, of DesMoines about their request for the
use of the gent City Jail. Mr. Peterson said that he should talk
to the Chief of Police of DesMoines to get the details of housing
the prisoners.
No recommendation on the use of the Jail at this time but it
will be given further study.
Councilman Pozzi reported on the graveling of Standert Road
and it is now passable, figuring that it will be put in better
shape when the weather clears up.
Councilman Hartlaub reported a lease from Curran was in the
making for a parking lot across from the City Hall for City Officials
and Employees. This document was placed in the hands of the City
Attorney, Mr. Thatcher to check.
Councilman Strain presented an LID peition for water in an
area on the West Hill in the City of Kent. Motion made, duly
seconded and passed to place the petition in the hands of the
City Engineer for checking the signatures.
_ Councilman Strain stated that Mr. Derbyshire, through his
Engineer, Miles Drake, was requesting a statement if water is
available for the big K Addition.
Councilman Strain moved, duly seconded, and passed to turn
the request over to the City Engineer, Mr. Sherwood, for study
and bring it back at the next Council meeting.
City Attorney, Mr. Thatcher reported on the lease with Curran
for the parking lot,called the Councils attention to certain phases
of it.
Councilman Hartlaub moved, duly seconded and passed, to accept
the Curran lease for 10 parking stalls at $25.00 per month, payed
quarterly and for the Mayor and the Clerk to sign same.
City Engineer, Mr. Sherwood said"there is money left in the
Sewer Bond account and the Treasurer, Mr. Cavanaugh, says "the
bank should know a week ahead before investment,"
Councilman Woodworth moved, duly seconded, and passed to
have the finance Committee invest the mohles with the convience of
the Treasurer.
A letter was read from the Book Publishing Co. on the operation
of their workings and the increase in prices due to higher cost of
production and favoring the Cities that started with codification of
the ordinances.
Motion made, duly seconded, and passed to place the letter from
Book Publishing Co. on file .
City Attorney, Mr. Thatcher has acquired a Quit Claim Deed from
the Williams for the 30 foot right-of-way into the West Hill fire
station and' also, Ordinance #1083 was read and upon motion duly
seconded and passed for the approving and accepting the deed for the
30 foot right-of-way to the West Hill Fire Station.
Councilman Woodworth reported on the one twenith of the State
sales tax that we went on record by petition for people to sign to
present to the coming session of the State Legislature.
This 1/20th percent of the sales tax would help the Cities in
their financial operations.
