Regular meeting of the City Council present Mayor Thornton,
councilmen Curran, Pozzi , Scott , Shaffer, Shinners, Strain,
Woodworth.
Minutes approved of the last previous meeting as printed;
Report of officers presented and placed on file , Treasurers
Clerks, and Budget.
City Engineer Mr Sherwood reported to the council that a
Platis now ready to hold a hearing on, " Reeves Plat" , just
Notth of the East Hill Elementary School Building. Motion
made and was duly seconded to hold a hearing on the plat
at the next regular meeting of the council Monday, August,
17 , at 8.01clock P.M. carried.
City Engineer reported that the ordinances that Ivan Block
and Associates drew in regard to Zoning and Subdivision was
now at the office of- the Secretary of the Kent Planning
Commission, and the Commisssmn would like a meeting with the
Council. Councilman Shaffer advised the council that it was
very important for all of the council to study the ordinances.
City Engineer recommended that tie Bay construction Co.
claim be delayed till the next meeting. Motion duly made and
seconded to accept the recommendation of the City Engineer.
Councilman Pozzi informed the council that he would have
a rough draft of the street changes for the next meeting.
Councilman Curran said that the two Kesolutions fo the
power rate for the two pump stations on the west hill seems
to be in order, and moved that the two Resolutions be adopted
and the iliayor aad clerk sign the contracts for 10 yearst
motion passed.
Councilman Curran spoke on the posibility of taking over
the water system of Dist . 75 that is in the city, end with
out a doubt that all the people in the room here` -- interest-
ed in the city supplying water to them in the west side of
the city.
Petition read from a large number of persons that reside
in Salt Air Hills Addn. requesting water from the city of kent
which are now being served by water district 75. Registered
letter received from Mr. Gordon Vrooman residing at 2137 So.
251st. requesting several questions to be submitted to the
city council pertaining to the regulations of the City of
Kent Water syatem. Mr. Vrooman, and Mr. Matthews, and Mrs.
grey was present with various questions on the Kent Water
system.At the request of Councilman Curran the petition
received was read. Motion passed to hold a hearing on the
petition at the City Hall 8:01clock P.Ivl. the 24th. of August.
Councilman Strain announced to the council that the Power
Company has made a surfey of the area the street lights
are to be installed in the west side of the city, there will
be in the neighborhood of one hundred lights.
Letter read from the Kent City Planning Commission on res-
commendatifon on width of streets, and the future look of our
city.
Letter read from the Pent Chamber of Commerce in regard to
present city garbage dump and the problem that is creating,
they have offer gg work with the council to help solve the
problem.CouncilAg We a report on the dump at a meeting
with Hayes• Evans, in regard to the time it would take to
fill the canyon across to the Grow road.Mayor Thornton report-
ed on the -feasibilty of using the river channel if the river
was straightened out at a point south of the city.City Engineer
reported on a meeting with Auburn on the dump, and Councilman
Scott made a report or. differnt phases og the workings of
the dump,using a sanitary fill.
Councilman Curran moved to increase the garbage rates 75 to
100. %. Motion made to table the motion roll call vote taken
Curran and -Pozzi voting 11ry and balance of council voting
in favor of the motion carried.
Councilman Scott moved and was duly seconded to have the
Engineers draw a design of the ,'-dump procedure for improvement
of samemotion carried.

Ordinance from the city of Renton read in regard to the 40
hour law. Motion passed to have the city attorney make a study
of the ordinance , and report back.
Letter read from the State Highway Commission giving 'us in-
formation on the seperation structure at 240 and the new Tacoma
Everett freeway, stating that they are taking our request up
with the U. S. Bureau of Public Roads, and their office will
notify us of the outcome.
Councilman Shinners moved and duly seconded to have the clerk
write a letter to the Commission and thank them for the in-"
formation on the seperation structure at 240th. and the new
Tacoma, Everett freeway. motion passed.
Bids were opened and read for the purchase of a car load of
cast iron water pipe of 6" size. Two bids were received, one
from Pacific States Cast Iron Pi e Co for $2.025 per ft. and
Western Utilities Supply Co for 2.Q2 per ft. Motion duly made
and seconded to award the bid to Western Utilities Supply Co.
motion carried.
Councilman Pozzi moved and was duly seconded to have the
City Attorney draw an ordinance , for the appointment of the
city attorney .motion carried.
Councilman Curran made a motion to have a meeting with the
Washington Cities Legislature committee at Arthurs Resturant
at 7-P.M,, October 26, motion carried.
Motion made and duly seconded to have the Engineers return
the 24" sewer pipe to the dealer for maximum credit , this pipe
not being usable on the west side sewer project , motion carried.
Councilman Straan was appointed to review the letter of request
for the new tile of Park Director being connected with the
Recreational Director for $ 500.00 this coming year.
Motion moved by Shaffer to have Councilman Shinners get in
touch with the proper office of the State to secure a 10 acre
tract of land that was set aside for midway if they incorporated
this tract now being in the city of Kent. motion carried.
Councilman Shinners requested information of the council in
regard to the sewer line for the Goveynment at the Nike Base,
the Bank and the Valley Vista area, and ask if this project had
gone by the board.
Change orders as requested by the project engineer Mr. Ramsay
was allowed by motion passed.
Roll Gall vote was had on the payment of Hill & Ingman claims
that were held from last meeting, Curran & Pozzi voting noy,
Shinners refrain, and Scott , Shaffer, Strain, Woodworth voting eya
